Gay's cap number assured the Grizz that they would be essentially stuck with this roster for another 2 seasons.

Trading him ASAP was critical because it will allow them to make other moves before this year's deadline, as well as into the offseason. Sooner than later was the best course of action. They weren't winning the chip this year anyway, so it was the best time to do it.


So all this talk about what they will miss without Rudy is too short sighted. NOT having Rudy gives them way more options, without taking away the difference maker on a title contender. He clearly wasn't it.
