2116390, Salute! - Tony Gonzalez
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Mon Jan-21-13 11:07 AM
Best tight end ever?

Arguably.

Always played with class and always gave it his all.

I've enjoyed watching dude play, even though he was a Chief for most of his career.

From busting Tim Thomas's ass while at Cal to dunking the football through the field goal post to celebrate scores.

I'm glad I got to watch him do his thing.

I didn't get to watch the game, so I don't know how much this was covered. But it was probably overshadowed due to Tony's lack of dance and motivational speech giving skills.
2116592, Damn nothing for Tony G huh?

2116604, dude is my favorite football player ever

best TE ive ever seen and furthermore, he played his position better than anyone ive ever seen

unbelievable player who revolutionized his position and indirectly, the game itself

cant say enough good things
2116651, And the longevity. I remember when Antonio Gates...

was supposed to take the position to the next level above Tony.

Didn't happen.

Some how Tony is still better than him and he's about to retire.
2116702, Gates isnt half the blocker Tony G is

The Chiefs ran the ball at a level that's unattainable without a TE like that
2116785, Gates barely attempted blocking

I mean let's not make Gonzalez out to be Ditka here just because of that. But yeah, I will really miss watching him, it's just insane how long he lasted and at a high level.
2300527, As far as pass catching/routes Gates is better, but everything else Tony G.

Never thought he'd still be ballin when im 21.
2116724, If it wasn't for TOGO, Gates and Jimmy Graham would be in the D-League

Much respect to him, to keep it up at that level for close to two decades at that position is amazing.
2116731, Undoubtedly changed the position. Happy to have had him.

2116748, Respect to the kalifornian.

They mentioned his contributions to the game and likely impending retirement during the broadcast a few times, as well. Most of it was centered around how well he was playing vis a vis his age and how he could stick around if he wanted to.
2116776, the truth

I am a bit of an old school guy when it comes to tight ends but guys like Gonzalez and Antonio Gates were so much fun to watch. I remember him as a an energy guy for Cal playing hoops, too, plus his halfassed tryout with the Heat. He always seemed like he was cool with the fans and very even tempered.
2116786, Best TE that I've ever seen, best catch still might be that wife

her & Herm's Krispy Kreme rants were the only things worth watching on that Chiefs' 'Hard Knocks' season.
2300122, Apparently he's replacing Shannon and Dan on CBS...
