2111212, Ahhhh, the Australian Open 2013
Posted by Deebot, Sun Jan-13-13 11:12 PM
The best way to escape winter through your TV, watching some daytime tennis being played in 100 degree weather while it's freezing and dark here. It's like a dream. I vow to go there one day.
2111872, Serena rolls her ankle, still bagels opponent

No surprises so far, the top 3 men looked to be in good form.

2112546, Stosur just choked up a lung

2112550, I left work when she was up 5-2
Posted by topaz, Wed Jan-16-13 02:34 AM
Came back home and turned on the tv, just in time to witness her serving a double fault to lose it. She's allergic to home soil or something, smh. Hard to believe she's the same person who won the US Open by beating Serena in the final.

.....
2113731, Everyone is. He's looking like he's finally back in '09 US Open form
Posted by LA2Philly, Thu Jan-17-13 01:01 PM
I was really sad to see that wrist injury cut him down when he was finally finding his full gm...so glad to finally see him regain it.
2114050, yeah...felt bad for him..but he is back to wreck people's plans
Posted by Ink_Spot, Thu Jan-17-13 05:20 PM
......
2114112, He's on Murray & Fed's half too
Posted by topaz, Thu Jan-17-13 06:59 PM
That side of the draw is tough. Djokovic probably won't have to break a sweat until the final.
2114053, Muguruza is cute.....would like to see her game in a few years

Delpo/Chardy
2114953, Chardy's forehands are just crazy...Delpo is stung
Posted by Ink_Spot, Fri Jan-18-13 11:38 PM
...if Delpo gets the 3rd set though...he will win the match
2115004, Fed vs Tomic...he's putting up a serious fight. Great 2nd set
Posted by LA2Philly, Sat Jan-19-13 04:28 AM
The 11th game with Tomic serving for the 6-5 lead was just incredible. Tomic hitting power forehand after forehand and Fed playin some redonkulous defense.
2115005, That set really could've went either way
Posted by topaz, Sat Jan-19-13 04:39 AM
Some great defense from Fed.
2115008, Fed's defense in the tie break....oh my goodness
Posted by LA2Philly, Sat Jan-19-13 05:14 AM
2115012, Took a page out of Djoko's book with all that sliding
Posted by topaz, Sat Jan-19-13 05:24 AM
2115371, Stan the Man sonning Djoko early
Posted by topaz, Sun Jan-20-13 05:00 AM
Dude is on a roll right now.
2115373, Another one of those classic Aussie Open night matches
Posted by topaz, Sun Jan-20-13 07:58 AM
5th set, let's go!!
2115375, this is a great one. i'm rooting for Stan

2115383, 10 all in the 5th
Posted by topaz, Sun Jan-20-13 09:26 AM
This is too good to be a 4th round match.
2115384, 5 hours. epic.
Posted by rl9, Sun Jan-20-13 09:39 AM
2115386, Really sucks someone had to lose that
Posted by topaz, Sun Jan-20-13 09:44 AM
Respect to Stan the Man and the Djoker.
2115388, really wanted Stan to win that...
Posted by Ink_Spot, Sun Jan-20-13 09:56 AM
..
2116305, Old man Fed schooling another youngin at the moment
Posted by topaz, Mon Jan-21-13 06:26 AM
At least Tomic took it to him for two sets and brought out his best, Raonic is looking, sad to say, Roddick-esque.
2117905, Fed reaches his 10th consecutive Aus Open Semi Final
Posted by topaz, Wed Jan-23-13 08:04 AM
That's just ridiculous when you think about it. Murray vs Fed should be a great one.
2118528, ASIAN!
Posted by topaz, Wed Jan-23-13 11:18 PM
'Pova seems to only play really well or really terrible downunder, 2 & 2, yeesh.
2118564, cmon Sloane!

Posted by DVS, Fri Jan-25-13 04:27 PM
.
2119425, Wow, critical misplay by Murray in the 2nd set tie-break (up a set)
Posted by LA2Philly, Fri Jan-25-13 05:37 AM
6-6, Murray serving...gets Fed to pop up and Andy decides to try a jump spike rather than letting the ball go out (by all accounts, ball was going 6+ feet out)...ball lands right on Fed's backhand who then laces a cross-court winner to go up 7-6 and serve for the set. Handed Fed a HUGE point.

Andy could have really choked the air out of the match but now it's alive and well.
2119429, Great response by Murray (becoming the norm now for him)
Posted by LA2Philly, Fri Jan-25-13 06:08 AM
Breaks Fed in the 5th game and then isn't threatened on his serve to take the set. The composure and resiliency that characterized Murray's rise last year has most certainly become the norm for him.

The difference in their serves and ground stroke velocity has been stark.
2119432, what a match
Posted by colonelk, Fri Jan-25-13 07:11 AM
Djokavic has got to be hoping for a 5th set.
2119435, Andy giving critical critical points away again...and there goes the set
Posted by LA2Philly, Fri Jan-25-13 07:18 AM
Roger has more unforced errors but I'd bet a hefty wager that Andy has more errors when he is in control of the point highlighted by his last game and tie break.
2119436, Murray clearly the better player right now
Posted by colonelk, Fri Jan-25-13 07:23 AM
But Roger scraping by in the big moments.

If Murray loses this thing he's going to be kicking himself for months.
2119438, Exactly
Posted by LA2Philly, Fri Jan-25-13 07:24 AM
Andy has responded again though man...took some pace off his backhand and it threw Fed's rythym off. Let's see if he takes control by holding serve for 3-0.
2119444, the way it should have ended
Posted by colonelk, Fri Jan-25-13 07:47 AM
Murray was playing better and will almost certainly be the stiffer challenge to Djokovic.

Hats off to Roger for digging into his bag of tricks to get to a 5th set.
2119446, Yup. Clearly it was the deserved result
Posted by LA2Philly, Fri Jan-25-13 07:59 AM
Andy was better pretty much across the board, particularly on his serve (quadrupled Fed's ace tally and his 2nd serve winning % was something like 20% higher than Feds, pretty astonishing). Honestly, it it's not for some critical mistakes on major points, could have been straight sets but props to Roger for capitalizing and going full bore in the tie breaks.

Andy's mental growth continues to impress. Hostile crowd, big errors, some weird breaks that didn't go his way (like that overrule and then challenge being wasted)...but he was resilient and responded everytime. The US open win helped him so much with his confidence and nerves...obviously carried into and was bolstered by his Gold medal as well. Always had the talent...now he's putting it all together and lets see if he can pass the ultimate test of having to face a rested Djoko.
2119483, Was rooting for Murray, glad that he came through, but
Posted by topaz, Fri Jan-25-13 09:43 AM
still sad to see Fed lose. He did an incredible job of sending the match into the 5th set, but you could tell that he had used up his last energy reserve after winning the 4th. It was a bit hard to watch him show his age in the last half hour.

I got Murray winning in 5 over Djoko.
2120233, Murray-Djoko. These two are cranking already
Posted by LA2Philly, Sun Jan-27-13 04:03 AM
Huge ground strokes and even more incredible is how much ground these two are covering.
2120234, Djoko's return game is crazy
Posted by topaz, Sun Jan-27-13 04:24 AM
So hard for Murray to get free points on his serve.
2120236, Pretty much all his game is crazy lol
Posted by LA2Philly, Sun Jan-27-13 04:37 AM
His forehand has let him down a bit on long rallies though..might just be a tactical thing for him to save his legs a little bit.
2120237, Djoko looking a little tight out there
Posted by LA2Philly, Sun Jan-27-13 04:55 AM
A lot of missed ground strokes while Andy has settled in comfortably. I don't know if it's his legs or but Djoko is being so aggressive that he's trying to rip a lot of shots that aren't in his strike zone...creating errors.
2120238, Murray's D is out of effin control right now
Posted by LA2Philly, Sun Jan-27-13 04:59 AM
Djoko just looked at his box with a 'are you serious' face...dude knows how it feels now lol...Murray getting to everything and somehow ripping lunging shots.
2120239, The missed break points must be frustrating
Posted by topaz, Sun Jan-27-13 05:00 AM
Murray looks superior right now but obviously this is FAR from over.
2120242, Props to Djokovic, Aus Open 3peat
Posted by topaz, Sun Jan-27-13 07:31 AM
A bit anti-climatic after the first two sets, but at least it was better than the 2011 final. Good to see Murray fighting even though he probably knew he wasn't gonna win after his feet gave out.
2120288, RE: Props to Djokovic, Aus Open 3peat
Posted by colonelk, Sun Jan-27-13 01:23 PM
Murray getting ground down just shows what freaks Nadal and Djok were in last year's final.
2120244, Congrats Djoko. Aussie triple
Posted by LA2Philly, Sun Jan-27-13 07:38 AM
Murray ran out of gas after that 2nd set and it was all but over after that. Still very impressed by him but Djoko's conditioning and consistency shine yet again.
