2109448, Better Career and Player Shaq or Kareem
Posted by mistermaxxx08, Wed Dec-31-69 07:00 PM
take into account about that Shaq had Kobe, and D Wade.

Kareem had the Big O Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson along with a deeper cast with the Lakers.

factor in the talent and depth.

weigh in for Kareem Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson

weigh in for Shaq Kobe and Dwayne Wade

lets balance it all out. IMO Both cats deserve statues outside of Staples.

I feel like he is under rated cause is is never mentioned in GOAT discussion. His scoring title may be something that will never be broken, won a lot of titles and ncaa titles, only played on two teams, just amazing.

Shaq is the most dominant player I have seen though, if he would have done things differently I would have voted differently
2109526, i mean as far as GOAT overall career, he is n always will be #1

took the nation by storm as a lebron-esque HS product in an era without mass media, took an already dominant college program to new heights and then lasted forever with immense success in the NBA

he is definitely a top 5 player all time on NBA alone.
2109520, Kareem on both but they are closer than people think IMO

Jabbar I mean if you are taking his ENTIRE career into account (HS/NCAA/NBA) he blows Shaq away. But NBA only, man, Shaq was a fucking force and easily the best player of his generation. Jabbar I'd still give the nod but it's kind of tight.

Overall I think Jabbar gave you more, he was definitely a better rebounder and more versatile scorer. But it would be an incredible individual matchup. Outside of Wilt there is really no player in history that could hang with Shaq's size and strength. I think Shaq would try and wear Jabbar down physically at both ends, meanwhile Jabbar could expose Shaq on defense a bit and probably win out on the glass. I'd take Jabbar but great kind of styles-make-fights matchup
2109569, Kareem is without question, the best player of the the 70s
Posted by AnonymousCoward, Sat Jan-12-13 01:27 PM
and top-5 of the 80s. He dominated the NBA for two decades.
2109528, They changed the rules because Kareem was so dominant

2110952, i gotta say Shaq
Posted by mistermaxxx08, Sun Jan-13-13 05:33 PM
he never played with no showtime.

you put Magic in his prime with Shaq in his prime and we are talking about 5 or 6/

Kareem is way up there however nba level i ll take Shaq because Shaq won with less.

3 peated!!

Shaq was a winner in 3 places.

let Shaq have a Oscar RObertson and a Magic Johnson and then he has rings on his toes

flopping, Hack a Shaq were rule changes because of Shaq

sky hook is IMO the greatest shot ever, however aside from that he ain't touching the diesel
2111159, shaq won with less but in a weaker era across the board
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sun Jan-13-13 10:11 PM
cmon, there were conference semifinal teams in the 80s with the horses to contend in the early 00s. where were shaq's celtics, pistons or even rockets and trail blazers? the east was atrocious and the west had like one team a year that presented any sort of real challenge.

you put shaq in kareem's place, you probably see the same result, same with kareem in shaq's place though IMO.

that doesn't have a lot of bearing on the argument to me, personally.
2111883, lets see the Lakers back in the 80's only had to deal with who?
Posted by mistermaxxx08, Tue Jan-15-13 02:03 AM
the Rockets who went to the finals once with Moses and then with the twin towers in 86 and then who? the blazers in 90.

it ain't like the Lakers didn't have a cake walk back in the day.

it ain't Shaq's fault he ran things. you play with what is front of you.

Shaq would have been even more dangeorus back in the 80's with a Magic as his PG.
2111949, but every team the beat in the NBA finals was a NBA champion

2111971, dude come the fuck on
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Tue Jan-15-13 10:42 AM
blazers with clyde and them were good for much longer than the blazers with sheed, sabonis and them.

rockets went to the finals twice and with the same star player won two titles. what did the kings do to measure up to that?

san antonio was the most consistent team and in the end they got theirs, too. does that measure up to the pistons and celtics? is it helped at all by a nets team that was totally helpless in the finals, a sixers team that had things fall into place one season or a one and done pacers team?

the 80s lakers definitely faced better competition, it's not close. as far as the opposing conference and conferece champions, the early 2000s lakers had it easier than anyone in history. in their own conference, eh, there was some competition but nothing huge or all that continuous.
2111247, actually

Two places 3 in LA and one in Mia
2111885, he took orlando to the finals
Posted by mistermaxxx08, Tue Jan-15-13 02:04 AM
wasn't his fault they lost.
2111890, Are we also taking finals loses into account too?
Posted by las raises, Tue Jan-15-13 03:21 AM
If that is the case Kareem lost quite a few of those too lol
2111952, so did Dwight Howard...

2111256, Kareem is in the GOAT convo, 6 titles, 6 MVP's, nobody is EVER...
Posted by ThaTruth, Mon Jan-14-13 12:14 AM
doing that
2111287, Yup, & if you consider his entire resume (not just pro), it's not close
Posted by LA2Philly, Mon Jan-14-13 02:53 AM
.
2111977, shaq is kind of on the fringe of the goat convo but it's a weak argument
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Tue Jan-15-13 10:45 AM
the argument is that going further back into history there would be no specimens like him, except there were with guys like wilt and chocolate thunder. shaq's style would have seen him foul out a lot in the past, something people overlook (wilt=zero career DQs!).

he would have been an even bigger monster, don't get me wrong, but i dunno how much bigger. still, there are some who might consider him the best ever, i know he was number one in that "who's better, who's best in basketball?" book
2112017, wilt not fouling out is more of him being a nutcase
Posted by JohnnyKilroy, Tue Jan-15-13 11:19 AM
than a skill...
2111914, i don't see how this is debatable....kareem
Posted by JohnnyKilroy, Tue Jan-15-13 09:36 AM
kareem maximized the most of his career. stayed in shape, and was productive well into the later years of his career. finals MVP over a decade apart.

on an all-time list, kareem cant be any lower than 4.
