Poll question: Better player at the peak of their powers

Poll result (37 votes)
Kobe (26 votes)Vote
T-Mac (11 votes)Vote

2108916, Kobe's lack of success minus Shaq/Pau vindicated T-Mac
Posted by Orbit_Established, Fri Jan-11-13 12:58 PM

His main criticism was no playoff success

We saw how good Kobe's teams were between Shaq leaving
and Pau arriving

If T-Mac doesn't get hurt, he's among the 10 best
players ever

Rebounded, handled the ball and passed better than Kobe

He really wasn't the same after 2003 and was still
among the best players in the league

2002-2003 is really the last time we saw him at FULL
health

And this post is about the PEAK OF THEIR
POWERS

At his PEAK, T-MAC was better than Kobe at Kobe's
peak

2108952, except T-Mac's pts, reb and asst averages go up in the 'offs

2108964, so did his usage rate, minutes and missed shots
Posted by Basaglia, Fri Jan-11-13 01:28 PM
bottomline, both fully healthy, at their best...kobe could do 60 in 3 quarters. t-mac couldn't.

i mean, maybe this is nostalgia and hoping niggas wouldn't remember t-mac and y'all could get yall kobe hate on AGAIN...but, this thread coulda EASILY offered up vince carter or pierce or wade...but, they all still playing and WE SEE DAILY that none are on kob level NOW, so tryna go on the premise of "at their best" looks foolish...

...so mac is offered up...lmao.

whatever.
2108967, Higher PER, same TS%
Posted by AnonymousCoward, Fri Jan-11-13 01:30 PM
T-Mac is the only player you named with injury problems. His is really a what-if situation.
2108941, T-Mac

2108946, Damn, people really hate Kobe. Like really.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Fri Jan-11-13 01:16 PM
T-Mac is no slouch, but he's no all-timer either.
2108955, No snark, but you watch a lot of prime T-mac?
Posted by AnonymousCoward, Fri Jan-11-13 01:21 PM
He's one of the few players who legitimately looked unstoppable.
2108956, Yeah, he looked unstoppable........at Scoring.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Fri Jan-11-13 01:22 PM
But would also fold in big games.
2108960, "folding" is Kobe going 6-24
Posted by melmag, Fri Jan-11-13 01:26 PM
2108962, higher playoff rebounding and assist numbers than Kobe
Posted by AnonymousCoward, Fri Jan-11-13 01:27 PM
Same scoring...and that includes T-Mac only averaging 4pts for ATL last year. How is that folding in big games again?
2108970, kobe also did ALOT of his numbers while playing with effin' shaq
Posted by bleekgilliam_420, Fri Jan-11-13 01:33 PM
i don't know how much of a apples to apples comparison you can make with this.
2108973, my point is, that it's a legitimate discussion, not "OKS shock"
Posted by AnonymousCoward, Fri Jan-11-13 01:36 PM
or "Kobe" hate. T-Mac was a GREAT player, and niggas forgot.
2108980, i dont think anyone that watched bball while he was in his prime
Posted by bleekgilliam_420, Fri Jan-11-13 01:45 PM
forgot T-Mac was a great player.
saying a blanket statement like their numbers match w\o looking at the other intagibles is what i have a problem with.
2108991, T-Mac actually wins the intangibles war
Posted by Orbit_Established, Fri Jan-11-13 01:58 PM
>forgot T-Mac was a great player.
>saying a blanket statement like their numbers match w\o
>looking at the other intagibles is what i have a problem with.

That's what WS and PER measure

Kobe supporters are only using points per game

When Kobe didn't have Shaq or Pau Gasol he was a
chucker, and a worse player than T-Mac in the best
season we saw him (he wasn't really even healthy after
2004)

but oks lost it shock factor a long time ago
2108978, This is more about T-Mac and less about Kobe
Posted by Orbit_Established, Fri Jan-11-13 01:43 PM

Tracy McGrady was actually ungodly good, and we've
let the back injury taint our memory

The only complaint we had against T-Mac was
his lack of playoff success, but we saw how
far Kobe got between losing Shaq and getting
Pau

Remember my post about T-Mac being better than
lebron at age 23? People were up in arms mad
until they looked at the numbers, and T-Mac
really was about as good or better

And T-Mac was 23 years old

Kobe was 26-27 years old, closer to his
basketball prime

T-Mac was a better basketball player in his prime
than Kobe was in his

More valuable

Better player by every conceivable measure

At the peak of their powers, T-Mac > Kobe

Take their two best seasons, compare them

T-Mac wins

Posted by mistermaxxx08, Sat Jan-12-13 01:41 AM
which is what cost him in later years, however back between 2000-2003 T Mac had him and a was a better defensive player as well IMO.

T-Mac was the truth back in the day.

bottom line anybody could have ran with Shaq from 99-04.

as Great as Kobe is, lets not act like T-Mac, Vince Carter and Iverson couldn't have ridin as sidekicks and held there lane with Shaq??

Kobe wasn't in a situation that T-Mac was in.
2109450, T-Mac was UNGUARDABLE b/c of his length, ask Bruce Bowen

He'll tell you he's the one guy who doesn't have tendencies like everyone else, the one guy you can't really predict. Among other things, of course, but that's a good start to what he's said about Kobe.

2109457, I dunno. Who was better at playing 17 seasons, winning titles,
Posted by Cold Truth, Sat Jan-12-13 01:58 AM
playing through injuries, winning an MVP, getting All-Star MVP's, racking up First/Second NBA All-Defensive Team spots (deserved or otherwse, whatever, I'll take it), Olympic Gold Medals, helping great but underachieving bigs win rings they didn't have before teaming up with him, and being the one guy in his generation that people persist in trying to unearth anyone and everyone that can be remotely considered better than, and being the one name consistantly mentioned as the best his position has ever seen with the lone exception of the virtually unquestioned GOAT?

I'm not sure, but whoever it is, I'll take that guy.
