2108515, The best NBA players to never be all stars. Posted by Ryan M, Thu Jan-10-13 08:03 PM
I was thinking about this. There's a lot of guys who are surprising that they never got an all star bid. Obviously guys like Kyrie or Harden are getting in soon, but some vets who didn't get in are surprising.

2108516, Lamar Odom Posted by Ryan M, Thu Jan-10-13 08:03 PM

2108613, Maybe his year with Miami but that's about it. Posted by haj20, Thu Jan-10-13 10:08 PM

2108599, Are you serious? Posted by BSharp, Thu Jan-10-13 09:48 PM
Media darling, yes. Has he had even a single All-Star season?! That is a very very difficult argument to make.
|
2108726, What's the argument though? Posted by Ryan M, Fri Jan-11-13 01:16 AM
|
2108769, Go ahead and try to argue that ... Posted by BSharp, Fri Jan-11-13 08:06 AM
...he's been deserving of an all-star nod even once. Guys like Rod Strickland got snubbed year after year after year.
He's a pretty good player, but he's a borderline All Star at best. Definitely not worthy of mention in a "Best plsyers to never make an all-star game" conversation.
|
2108829, Noah is having an all-star calibur season right now Posted by rjc27, Fri Jan-11-13 10:58 AM
|
2108901, The argument isn't : OMG NOAH HAS BEEN SNUBBED Posted by Ryan M, Fri Jan-11-13 12:34 PM
It's just that there isn't a huge list of these guys. Sorry, he fits on it.
|
2109027, he's a fantastic player. Posted by Guinness, Fri Jan-11-13 02:26 PM
way better than aldridge, but doesn't score enough for people to notice. people are dumb.

Sam was a great player.
|
2108524, Rod Strickland Posted by Bombastic, Thu Jan-10-13 08:07 PM
|
2108540, Damn. It's wild b/c players like Michael Adams had a higher peak Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Thu Jan-10-13 08:25 PM
but those like Rod had longer primes/careers...so looking back, I think more of us remember Rod, even if it is because he lasted 9 years more than Adams did
|
2108678, Michael Adams' peak has to be pace-adjusted tho, he was putting up Posted by Bombastic, Thu Jan-10-13 11:47 PM
gaudy numbers but his team was scoring 120 & giving up 130 under Westhead's crazy-ass system up in that Denver altitude.
Hot Rod was always better to me.
|
2108679, LMAO @ Denver altitude. Was Rod better even at peak? Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Thu Jan-10-13 11:48 PM
|
2108737, hell yeah Rod was better, Michael Adams was basically Nate Rob Posted by Bombastic, Fri Jan-11-13 01:58 AM
with a green-light in Paul Westhead/Doug Moe systems that make D'Antoni offenses/defenses look like Riley's Knick teams.
|
2109110, LOL nahhhhh I wouldn't say he was Nate Rob though! More consistent Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Fri Jan-11-13 03:54 PM

2108874, Strickland was all-nba 2nd team one year, he does not count Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri Jan-11-13 12:03 PM
I think he was set to go but could not because of a minor injury, but don't quote me on that.
|
2109616, sure he does, he's never been an All-Star or invited to be one Posted by Bombastic, Sat Jan-12-13 03:38 PM
|
2109632, i thought he was invited and could not compete, in which case, no Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sat Jan-12-13 04:12 PM
doesnt count
but i could be wrong

2108526, Andre Miller Posted by Bombastic, Thu Jan-10-13 08:07 PM

2108745, Was he ever really better then 10-15 though? Posted by Szabo, Fri Jan-11-13 02:47 AM
In terms of best PGs?

Led the league in total assists and assists per game.

2108541, I think he'll get it this year. Posted by Ryan M, Thu Jan-10-13 08:26 PM
He HAS to right?
|
2108544, i hope he and noah both make it Posted by rob, Thu Jan-10-13 08:38 PM
but who you know how boston/mia/nyc squeeze those roster spots.
honestly nene is prob number 2 for me among active not-all stars and he'll never make one.

throw in the best players/2nd best player on another team w/ a better record and it's a wrap considering the Hawk have been mediocre and that JJ was considered their best player and Al has surpassed him.
|
2108590, no & no Posted by ne_atl, Thu Jan-10-13 09:24 PM
JJ was considered their best player and Al >has surpassed him.
Josh has been the best player on that team for the past 3 years. His brain farts aside, the man has been balling.
|
2109077, Al is solid as a rock, Josh has that JR gene Posted by FILF, Fri Jan-11-13 03:14 PM

2108703, that's crazy, shit AC Green played in one Posted by las raises, Fri Jan-11-13 12:38 AM
Well Byron has coached two though
|
2108741, AC *started* in an All-Star Game, which made Karl Malone lose his mind. Posted by Bombastic, Fri Jan-11-13 02:17 AM
Got so mad he went out & scored 60 against a scrub team that night.
Then said he was boycotting the game for a week or so because he didn't get voted to start, then bullshitted about an injury later since he looked stupid & still stayed home.
I was laughing my ass off when Mailman's bitch ass got his All-Star spot back the next year & lost the game for the West that year with basket interference at the buzzer.
The next All-Star Game after that was the one when he talked all the shit about Magic & not wanting to play with him because he didn't wanna catch AIDS.
That summer he was mad again because Barkley (deservedly) was starting over him on the Dream Team.
Man, I could go on forever with that hillbilly's bitchassedness but I'll stop.
Anyway, I found it hilarious when AC started over him while Karl went to go fish & sulk in some Louisiana sinkhole that season.
Fuck Karl Malone.
|
2108871, lol at all of that Posted by las raises, Fri Jan-11-13 11:50 AM

2108572, I could have SWORN Tyson Chandler/Camby made it one year. Posted by Ryan M, Thu Jan-10-13 09:11 PM
They didn't though.
|
2108575, he's in the same boat as Marcus Camby Posted by FILF, Thu Jan-10-13 09:13 PM
he was at the wrong conference at the wrong time. Roy Hibbert meanwhile is going to the bank off of dominating Big Baby in the 'offs.
EDIT: *cough* cite your sources when you edit *cough*
|
2108576, shit i thought chandler made it last year but CAMBY? CAMBY. Posted by rob, Thu Jan-10-13 09:13 PM
that blows my mind.

2108654, Jason Richardson Posted by micMajestic, Thu Jan-10-13 11:02 PM
He's never been a top shooting guard but he had a few years where he seemed close to the top.
|
2108668, nah Posted by AlBundy, Thu Jan-10-13 11:24 PM
|
2108680, Yea. He's underrated as a player and dunker Posted by -DJ R-Tistic-, Thu Jan-10-13 11:49 PM

2108696, He mostly forgot how to dunk in games in Orlando Posted by ImPerfectNick, Fri Jan-11-13 12:23 AM
|
2108761, Dude couldn't play D to save his life w/ those choppy strides Posted by FILF, Fri Jan-11-13 06:03 AM
He also blew a couple of break away bunnies in the 2010 WCF against the Lakers (ala Metta style) that put a nail in the coffin. He could shoot lights out when he gets hot, you could rate him as a 2nd tier Michael Finley, in that he could fill it up but never made anyone better but FinDawg was a decent defender (He used to light up the Mavs when Fin was w/ the Mavs though for some reason, it's probably b/c he idolized him ala Elmo/LaMarcus).
|
2108669, Michael Finley? He might have been on one squad Posted by temps2020, Thu Jan-10-13 11:26 PM

|
2108774, nick van exel only made it once I think. Posted by Ish, Fri Jan-11-13 08:57 AM
Derek Harper.
|
2110645, Van Exel was undeserving anyway, Harper I thought had one but no Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sun Jan-13-13 03:20 PM
He was a strong two-way player, under-appreciated.
|
2108792, Jalen Rose is definitely in this conversation Posted by Orbit_Established, Fri Jan-11-13 09:46 AM
Its funny how people forget that he actually had an outstanding NBA career; was the best player on those VERY GOOD Indiana Pacer teams in the early 2000s
Had some great seasons with Toronto too

2108830, at least he got paid like one Posted by rjc27, Fri Jan-11-13 11:00 AM

|
2110668, yeah he was a very good nba player Posted by Amritsar, Sun Jan-13-13 03:32 PM
shocking he never made an all-star team
I wonder if some of that has to do with Webber/Howard always being the stars and Rose maybe taking a backseat ? He was drafted mid first round, whereas the other two were drafted top 5's

2108875, LOL so far I am not seeing any really good players, thread fail? Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri Jan-11-13 12:04 PM
NBA all star game is basically a joke. There are guys who get too few based on a log jam at their position or whatever but overall way more shit guys that aren't stars make it than real stars get left off.
|
2108903, I mean, most really good players have made it. Posted by Ryan M, Fri Jan-11-13 12:35 PM
The thread was about the best of the guys who haven't.

2109523, him, chris gatling, bj armstrong, brad miller, z, rip and a lot of ... Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sat Jan-12-13 10:48 AM
grunt guys like tyrone hill, anthony mason and dale davis. mo williams is sorry for an all star, sorry, he got it because of injury and riding bron's coattails (obvious at the time, history since proved it to the blind).
wally's world was a suspect selection.
how was nick van exel in the game again?
wasn't mehmet okur an all-star one year?
there are a lot of schlubby all-stars in a league where there really should not be. in baseball, OK, whatever, every team has to be represented and positional breakdowns are weird. but the nba? no excuse
