in the SEC there's a decent chance that a backup is more talented than the starter but for whatever reason (effort, intelligence, etc) they don't start.

other conferences there's a dropoff after that first dude on the depth chart.

when you sort by number of Active Pros, there are 8 SEC schools in the top 20.

When you go against Rutgers, there might be two guys on the team who will play in the NFL. When you go against LSU, there's like 8.
