but at the APEX. Best I'VE SEEN. was Marshall Faulk. Only running back who may have been the legit BEST player in The League.

Brown, Payton, OJ. He definitely respects Campbell, maybe didn't see as much of his career though.
2100316, begrudgingly, Marshall (I was a Titans fan in the McNair/George years)
Posted by Nodima, Sun Dec-30-12 07:38 PM
but I can't deny what that man did to the game, even if only a few runners (most notably Tomlinson) have figured out how to follow suit. Though you can't hate on what Roger Craig was hinting at when he ran and caught 1,000 each.

I would say Barry, maybe, except I never liked his 1, 1, , 50 style and have long considered Emmitt my favorite running back of all-time, even with all the caveats about offensive lines and WRs and QBs and CBs.

2100388, Fact: None of these dudes carried a good team like AD in 2012
Posted by Orbit_Established, Sun Dec-30-12 08:08 PM

Taking nothing away from Marshall, but he faced
Nickel packages because of the Ike,Holt, Az and them

He was clearly the best player on that team, but still

AD's 2012 just rewrote what we knew about the power of
a great RB to guide a football team

It was special

Walter did. Unless you think Willie Gault and Jim McMahon were anything beyond above average?

And the team was coached by Mike Ditka.

Obviously the Bears developed an all-time great defense but their offense was Walter Payton. And that was in an era where a running back's durability was put to the test in a serious way, game in and game out.

Taking nothing away from Peterson or if anyone thinks he was better than Sweetness, different discussion. But he definitely carried the Bears entire offense for the entirety of his time in the league. When they were trash and when they were good and when they were the best team in football. Definitely worthy of comparison to Adrian Peterson's role with the Vikings this year.
2100931, Walter did and Barry too

He's the best, toughest, and baddest man by far.

The only other acceptable response would be if you're W.C. Or Truth and have seen Jim Brown run dudes over.
2100483, Dunno, Bo Jackson just seemed like an otherwordly talent to me

And this doesn't have anything to do with Tecmo Bowl, maybe my memory was faulty but he made football look easy.

HOFs I can think of: Singletary, Dent, Roaf. Ricky Williams just behind those guys.
2100963, Walter easily...
Posted by FromTheGo, Mon Dec-31-12 11:51 AM
Barry is a very close second

AP is the closest we have to Walter Payton with regard to running style.

Payton was a balanced receiver and punishing blocker and could do everything on the field.

For a dude that small to have linebackers and safetys in fear not that he would juke them, but would run full fucking speed into them...run through tackles.

If AP passes Walter and Barry and Emmitt in yards, I wouldn't be mad. He has done it like Walter and Barry with some bad teams and bad lines.

2101019, Barry, ED and Marshall are the best backs I actually got to see
