2082591, Crazy Murder/Suicide story breaking out of Chiefs facilities
Posted by Y2Flound, Sat Dec-01-12 09:29 AM
Still very little info

Started with a Jay glazer tweet

Scary situation in KC right now as a player and another person have been shot at the Chiefs facility. Don't want to reveal player until his family knows

A tweet from a Kansas City Star writer said Our news partner ch. 5 reporting #Chiefs player apparently killed his girlfriend and then himself this morning. Details to come.

I'm seeing unconfirmed tweets that it was Jovan Belcher who shot his girlfriend and himself, but nobody of any verification is naming names until things are "triple confirmed" as Glazer said

Scary and terrible situation

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
Police are investigating two deadly shootings Saturday morning that they said are related.

The shootings involve a Chiefs player and his girlfriend.

The first shooting was reported about 8 a.m. at a home near 54th Street and Chrysler Avenue. The second shooting was reported a short time later at a Chiefs practice facility located on the Arrowhead facility.

Officials said the Chiefs player shot and killed his girlfriend and then drove to the practice facility where he shot and killed himself.

It's unknown if people were at Arrowhead or any of its surrounding facilities at the time.

But it makes sense they fly out Carolina just in case. Its just a plane trip and its too early to unilaterally cancel the game at this hour.
But no, it happens the day before the game, at the stadium, the GM and the head coach see it happen........both teams happen to be awful....

According to NFL rules, the Chiefs forfeit the game and the other team is willing and able to play, the Panthers win the game 2-0.

Shit takes me back to what happened to McNair, which took me back to something that happened to a personal friend of mine.

a lot of glaring red flags that are overlooked by coaches, teammates, family, friends etc., just because somebody is talented or somebody may see them as a meal ticket and ignore the signs that someone needs help or is dangerous.

Not saying that was necessarily the situation here because we don't yet but if it was and someone had addressed it sooner what happened this morning might have been avoided.

I don't know that for a fact, tho, so I'd rather just be sad at the loss
of life

That is really the story, and is true regardless of the circumstances

this guy created death and pain today. why are we looking to absolve him or just say "aw, what a sad situation?" it is a sad situation because he made it a sad situation.

Deal with tragedy like a MAN

Be sad for the dead and for senseless violence of which
this case is but ONE of THOUSANDS this year

Seems to me like this dude was off, have a hard time putting
him in the same category as a Rae Carruth

Mental illness is a very real thing, many victims of mental illness
are authors of senseless acts of violence

Doesn't make it right, of course. Doesn't mean we can't be mad

But using anger as a crutch is dumb

So in the absence of knowing any better, I just grieve for the loss
of life

I obviously read the Deadspin piece this morning. I've known plenty of drunks, people who've had relationship problems and I know a number of guys with concussion problems a lot more serious than these. None of them are doing life for killing their girlfriends or wives.

You can come in here with some more absurd grandstanding, feel free. I couldn't give a fuck less what you think. And I don't have to "deal" with this tragedy, fortunately. If I knew the people involved and I were speaking to them, obviously I would not say these things.

But I would still think them. There's no absolving or mitigating here. You're responsible for your actions, drunk or sober. If your behavior is affected by head trauma, what the fuck are you doing with a loaded weapon within reaching distance?

This guy is responsible for his own undoing and worse yet he dragged people with him. You need to lecture him on being a man, not me.

Posted by murph71, Sat Dec-01-12 04:10 PM

RIP to that woman....what a sickening, tragic story...That dude was a fucking coward...He didn't deserve to breath....

But on the real...The interesting thing about being a HUGE NFL and NBA fan is you are able to call bullshit with the some of the past criticism of professional basketball...

I remember all of the bullshit talk about the NBA being a thug, criminal league...All the talk about Allen Iverson being everything that was wrong with sports...

It's amazing how the same is rarely said for the NFL...Rae Carruth gets his boy to shoot up his baby mother...An NFL player gets implicated in a huge drug network...Another player kills someone while drunk driving...

And the sport that I have dug for years since the early days of Sweetness doing the high step has been given a pass because of its culture-shifting popularity...

I guess its way more easier to demonize another sport that just so happens to be close to majority black.....As opposed to overlooking the shit that goes on within another league just because it happens to be the biggest gambling outlet of all the other sports and it still features mostly whites at the biggest, glamor position (QB)...

I love my football...But the double standard is sickening...

2082818, WHAT.THE.FUCK did you just type?

Fam, some niggas just snap...

talking bout he ain't deserve to breathe...well obviously he did before killing his girl considering no one in either family saw any signs of violence or abuse...

he killed his girl and decided in his own head he didn't deserve to breathe and took care of that

It's not for any of us to judge at this point

its sad...

that's it

all this other shit you talking is pointless

you have old players KILLING THEMSELVES because of concussions and their own issues where they can't deal with life from years of playing the sport

you have tons of wrestlers who die early from years of steroid and physical abuse

you have tons of athletes with mental issues that if tame enough are marketed by their respective leagues and if extreme, they are tossed off to be forgotten

but you have MILLIONS OF PEOPLE that aren't under this scope who go through the same mental issues and pressures who sometimes just fucking snap...

don't make this shit out to be something that it isn.t other than a tragedy

>you have old players KILLING THEMSELVES because of concussions
>and their own issues where they can't deal with life from

U are so off the reservation on my underlining point...

And, I'm not talking about players who are suffering from concussion syndrome....The same happened to one of my favorite players Dave Duerson...Those guys have been lied to for years...That's another discussion...

>you have tons of wrestlers who die early from years of steroid
>and physical abuse

Yep...but wrestling is not taken seriously...And it's been called out for its lawlessness and the almost criminal way they deal with their talent even worse than the NFL...So that's a horrible comparison...

>you have tons of athletes with mental issues that if tame
>enough are marketed by their respective leagues and if
>extreme, they are tossed off to be forgotten
>
>
>but you have MILLIONS OF PEOPLE that aren't under this scope

>
>Fred Lane, Tragedy, Phil Hartman, Tragedy, Belcher, Tragedy,

>fucked up shit happens

Dog...I'm not just talking about some dude that killed himself...He killed his baby mom's and like a coward checked out...But more importantly, the talk surrounding dude is that he was beating her and being very abusive...Yes I'm sure he had some serious issues to deal with...We all are far from perfect...but beating on a woman and killing them does not give you a pass..

My point is the overall perception of how folks look at the NBA vs. the NFL is glaring...

One league seems to always be in the news for wild or criminal behavior and is still viewed as America's game...The other has struggled just to get over perceptions that it is a "thug" (aka black) league...

Because I follow and love both sports, I can see the double standard...
2082842, that's entirely a different issue
Posted by FromTheGo, Sat Dec-01-12 04:55 PM

Where were these people who noticed abuse when the shit mattered...

shit like this gets me because if dude didn't SNAP then that means there were a gang of people who just let shit escalate and were blinded by either money or some other factor and were more enablers than friends and support.

Media is media and the fact that NBA and NFL are predominately black plays a factor in how their employees are demonized...

Hockey players and baseball players don't beat their wives and go fucking ham off roid rage and etc...

HELL YES THEY DO

but the immature wayward niggas will always be the ones looked at in the fishbowl of sport as being unique and different and dangerous.

That cism goes deep

but none of that shit has to do with this dude who Killed his girl and himself. Fuck what you talking about with regard to NBA and NFL this is an individual who committed a crime and took his own life

Wrestling counts as a comparison because all of this shit is just entertainment for white folks, hell Goddell and Stern just got through telling everyone THIS IS A BUSINESS and you ain't gone too far to see that yet...

It has something to do with it...because it's not just a question of him killing himself...The reports say that he was being abusive to his baby's mother for a minute...That was before he killed her and snapped

>Wrestling counts as a comparison because all of this shit is
>just entertainment for white folks, hell Goddell and Stern
>just got through telling everyone THIS IS A BUSINESS and you
>ain't gone too far to see that yet...

Wrestling is not even viewed as a real sport...Vince treats his players even worst than Walmart workers...

Follow me, Go...

This is not some sky is falling posting...My point is the NFL seems to always gets the benefit of the doubt when it comes to their players getting into trouble with the law or crazy shit like this happening...

When hockey players go nuts and do dumb shit it's not an indictment of their league...

When football players go nuts or engage in unlawful activity, it's not an indictment of the league..

When an NBA player does something unlawful or gets caught up in scandal ,it's "oh, it's a thug league..."

I guess if the NBA had the mammoth gambling popularity as the NFL it would get the same pass...

Could you imagine if 5 or 7 players on the Bulls were in trouble with the law in the same way the Bengals players were...

Or how about how the Detroit Lions players were in and out of trouble and in the news for dumb shit?

You think the Miami Heat and the NBA would have got the same kind of pass?
2082862, that's just CISM

It's deeper than just 'Cism, Go...

It's hypocrisy because of economics...

Yes, Hockey gets a pass because it's virtually all white...

But its even crazier with the NFL and NBA, two of my favorite sports...

It def. helps that the NFL still has a majority of its main headliners ( i.e. QB's) white...Payton, Manning, Brees, A. Rogers, ect...So it's a sport that doesn't look too "black" in the big spots...But race comes second to economics in the NFL...

Football's fans and the media will always look the other way as long as the NFL dominates culturally (fantasy football, Sunday gaming, ect...) and the economics (skyrocketing money brought in by gambling, which is the real reason it truly is America's game) as well as the billions made in NFL revenue make such points moot...

An NFL player can kill someone in a drunk driving accident (which again, happened) and it will be viewed as "shit happens"...BTW, I think that's the right way to view such a thing...A whole sport should not be judged on what some individuals do..

It would be cool if the NBA was viewed in the same light...
2083122, Uh, the suicides in hockey last summer led to DIRECT changes in ...
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sat Dec-01-12 09:42 PM
the sport. You're talking about Belak, Boogaard, Rypien, all guys who made their living with their fists essentially. Two suicides and an overdose. It was yet another catalyst in the ongoing move to protect players, eliminate hits targeting the head and continue the sharp, sharp decline in fighting in the sport. If you look at the number of fighting majors today vs any other era, it's incredibly low. There is also more awareness of psychological states, injury recovery, etc now. The NHL has absolutely responded, so have the people within it and so did the public as much as they have responded to anything in what's essentially a tweener between major sport and niche sport.

I am not trying to diminish the racism against the NBA (in particular!) and the NFL to some degree also, just pointing that hockey does not "get a pass." That kind of stuff caused a great deal of introspection and of course from without plenty of people saw these guys as goons who got hit in the head too many times.

Jovan Belcher reportedly to Scott Pioli: 'I love you, bro'

Published: Dec. 3, 2012 at 09:18 a.m. Updated: Dec. 3, 2012 at 09:53 a.m.

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher knew he was in trouble. The police were coming for him, and the walls were closing in. Before anything happened next, Belcher reportedly wanted to talk to the men who made his professional dreams come true.

SI.com's Peter King revealed new details on Belcher's final minutes in his latest Monday Morning Quarterback column on SI.com. He writes, via a source close to law enforcement, that Belcher arrived in the Chiefs' parking lot Saturday at the same time as Pioli. The general manager saw Belcher was in an agitated state and had a gun. The two reportedly spoke for several minutes.

"I came here to tell you thank you. Thank you for my chance. I love you, bro," Belcher told Pioli, according to King's source.

Belcher also reportedly asked to speak with "Romeo and Gary" -- head coach Romeo Crennel and defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs.

Pioli called them out to the parking lot, which must have been a difficult decision. He was asking two friends to come out and talk to a young man who had just shot someone (Pioli didn't know the exact details yet) and clearly was not well.

Crennel and Gibbs reportedly tried to calm Belcher down with little success. Belcher thanked them, walked away and shot himself in the head.

"I wasn't able to reach the young man," Crennel told King.

2084824, SI.com: Belcher was out with another woman prior to murder-suicide?

This shit gets crazier and crazier...

Source: Belcher was out with 2nd woman prior to murder-suicide
Story Highlights

By Thayer Evans, SI.com

According to a law enforcement official close to the investigation, Jovan Belcher was out "partying" the night before he shot Kasandra Perkins. He had been with a woman in the Power and Light District, an area of bars in downtown Kansas City, according to the official who is familiar with statements made by the woman to police.
Belcher and the woman had become separated at some point and he went to her apartment in a complex in Kansas City, but she wasn't there, the official said. According to two of the woman's neighbors, Belcher was intoxicated and they let him stay in their apartment so he could get some sleep.
Belcher asked them to wake him by 6:30 a.m. so he could attend a team meeting later that morning, the official said. "I'll get fined if I don't make it," Belcher told them.
The women woke Belcher and he went to Perkins' house about 6:30 a.m. or 7 a.m. She had come home earlier after a concert and being out in the Power and Light District also.
The couple then argued before Belcher killed Perkins and later killed himself.

Posted by Warren Coolidge, Tue Sep-30-14 12:18 AM
energy right now.... people are going to claim that any talk about this is some sort of excuse for domestic violence, and hopefully not water down the much needed attention on this...

we got a legal system to be punative regarding domestic violence...

we need energy toward addressing and protecting men from brain damage issue..

I watch a lot of hard hits to the head up close every Friday night under the lights... 15....16...17 year old kids getting cracked over the middle by 240lb linebackers......

shit's series...
2373073, It doesn't excuse actions but it does give us a thing to work and prevent
Posted by Y2Flound, Tue Sep-30-14 07:01 AM
Chris Benoit is a great example (though steroids also played a part).

To this day there are people who try to excuse or defend Benoit killing his wife child and himself as he was brain damaged, but it's not an excuse. In the end the brain damage may have turned him into a monster but he still turned into a monster.

However after the incident WWE took big steps in their wellness policy and concussion policy to do all they could to prevent this. About a year ago they were pushing Dolph Ziggler finally and he got a concussion almost as soon as he won the world title, it was taken off of him immediately and he was forced to sit out for a while which is something that never happened pre Benoit.

I guess what I'm saying is we'll see a little of all of this, we will see people defend Belcher because of CTE, we will see people get mad that we are even talking about CTE as if we are trying to defend Belcher, and we will see cooler heads prevail and realize that this could probably have been prevented...hopefully.

2373074, Well, no, it actually makes it completely different.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Tue Sep-30-14 07:20 AM

If he had CTE, and CTE has repeatedly been shown to
cause this type of behavior, than yes, it completely
changes the landscape of this situation.

It has nothing to do with "defending" anyone.

2373079, No, it adds a caveat, it doesn't make it completely different
Posted by Y2Flound, Tue Sep-30-14 07:37 AM
Because in the end he murdered someone and murder is murder

Now the point that I'm making is that people need to concentrate on prevention of CTE rather than trying to debate about the act or person himself. There will be people who make all kinds of things their top priority and the most logical ones are the ones who look forward to prevention rather than back to argue.
2373080, LMAO. Was CTE a "caveat" in Junior Seau's suicide?

Posted by Y2Flound, Tue Sep-30-14 07:46 AM
The top priority needs to be preventing this going forward, if you disagree with that you're just a jackass.

I hope his family gets the NFL money they are suing for

I also hope we don't see more people get brain damage and kill people

I know that fighting over whether we should "excuse" (for lack of a better word) his actions due to CTE is a waste of time.
2373082, LOL -- you're still defending Goodell.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Tue Sep-30-14 07:49 AM

That's their entire defense-

Sure, CTE is there, but its not really causing abnormal behavior.

Seau blows his brains out, not because of CTE, but because he's
sad.

Belcher kills two people, not because of CTE, but because he's
a terrible human being.

And if the NFL is causing CTE, but CTE isn't causing these
behaviors, then let's extend the season to 18 games, because
the CTE isn't hurting anyone. Sad and bad people are.

dude faced a lot of challenges as a kid. I didn't even know that Casandra Perkins, the young lady that Jevon Belcher killed was the cousin on Jamal's wife and like a little sister to him. In fact, Casandra and Jevon met at dinner at Jamal and his wife's house. He said for a long time he blamed himself for her death. Jeez...he shot that girl 9 times in front of her mother.
