2065557, Back 2 The Grill Again: 2012-13 Kentucky Wildcats Basketball Post

"You need a posse the size of the Nazi's to attack this..." (c) MC Serch

It's that time of the year. College Basketball is fresh and ready to tip off. And the National Champions are back ready to Re-load.

Meet this year's team:

Kyle Wiltjer: The lone contributor from last years National Champion. He's probably the best shooter in the country. He just so happens to be 6'9. I hope he works well in the post with his nifty skyhook. He needs to pick up the intensity on defense and rebounding or will be sitting next to Cal. The sky's the limit with his talent. We need to rely on him to spread the floor and open lanes for our slashers.

Ryan Harrow: He takes the steering wheel and has a lot of pressure on his head at the recent run of successful point guards wearing Big Blue. He has one advantage that the others didn't, he's not a Freshman. As a 3rd year soph who spent the entire last year sitting out learning the system and practicing against 1st round pick Marquis Teague, he's ready to hit the ground running. And I believe he will not suffer from the early season turnover bug that's plagued the last 3 pgs.

From watching him play on a limited basis, I like his game a lot. He's under control, he's fast as shit, and can shoot. He has a chance to unseat Marquis as my favorite pg of the recent cats. My only question is can he defend.

Archie Goodwin: A frosh who's a little unlike our recent wings. He reminds me of a young D-Wade. He's athletic, can handle, and has long arms. Needs to put some weight on. But he can become a heck of a defender.

Alex Poythress: Probably the biggest question mark for me, but probably the most talented. He's built like a pro already, can board, but has to work on his motor. Coach Cal should be able to motivate him. But if he gets it going, he can be the difference between the Wildcats being good and unbeatable. He can become a great defender as well. He just has to want it.

Nerlens Noel: Big Ner. The man with the Cameo. He's a straight up savage word to Tim Riggins and Benicio Del Toro. He's gonna get compared to Anthony Davis, but he's nothing like Anthony Davis. He might break his shot blocking record though. Where A.D. was pretty and graceful. Big Ner is vicious I see his offensive game progressing too. Once he realizes the level of competition, he will be a beast.

Willy Cauley-Stein: I did not know he'd be this good. He's like an embarrassment of riches. W.C.S. is huge. And a wild athlete. Played football in HS, among some other sports. He's oddly nimble and quick for a such a big man kinda like Dream when they'd talk about how soccer helped him with his game. Playing both him and Big Ner at the same time will cause so many problems for the opposition.

Julius Mays: Another transfer will provide leadership and quality shooting. All will be needed. I like to view him as a stabilizing presence.

The team is deeper than last years, but Cal will still keep the bench short, but these other cats are nice to have: Jon Hood, Twany Beckham

Conference Outlook: I see threats coming from Florida as always. And Cuonzo has something cooking. Much respect to Anthony Grant as well. Mizzou is new to the Conference and thinks they have a contender as well. They'll be in for a rude awakening.

Key Out of Conference Games: There's no more Indiana and UNC and that saddens me. Those 2 games were my favorites other than the 2 vs Florida and Louisville.

We still have Louisville on deck. We start off against Maryland, who might still be mad about the whole Harrison Twins thing. And we have Duke early too, which will be a great barometer on how good we are. Neither of those teams will face the collection of athletes we put on the floor in either game.

Prediction: We go for #9

Terps might make a game of it!
2066039, I've never seen him play. Any good?

2072654, Rumors swirling about Harrow...
Posted by third_i_vision, Fri Nov-16-12 03:46 PM
People saying it's not the flu/mono, but instead that he's struggling with some anxiety issues. Hope he gets it together.

*cues ACC fans saying "I TOLD YOU SO"*
2072665, Word. I thought at worst it'd be mono.

One would think a year on the shelf would've let him soak it all in.

But I guess this year and the Andrew Harrison waiting in the wings can put the jitters on you.
2076401, Ryan Harrow is officially AWOL. This keeps getting weirder.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Nov-21-12 11:54 AM
Cal said he did some treadmill and wants to get back to the team, but left town to deal with family issues.

Now he'll miss tonight's and Friday's games.

Just weird.

I hope dude is alright.
2076408, too bad. he has legit talent.
Posted by Basaglia, Wed Nov-21-12 12:01 PM
2076423, I was excited to see him play.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Nov-21-12 12:23 PM
It's strange cuz he's been there for a year already.
2076427, sucks. good luck with all that...
Posted by Basaglia, Wed Nov-21-12 12:35 PM
2076431, You mean Archie going buckwild with the handles?
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Nov-21-12 12:49 PM
That's not the team I want to watch.

I read Tyus is planning his visit.

Then I read the 15 or so teams on his list.

That dude ain't coming dawg.

But Karl though? Karl?

My Dominican Durant!

2076528, Don't care about Archie or Karl. Tyus not realistic.
Posted by Basaglia, Wed Nov-21-12 03:17 PM
Know your type.

And Sheed better than your generic country ass guard. SKILLSETS MATTER!
2076540, That's laughable. And has "Deja Quinn Vu" written all over it
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Nov-21-12 03:47 PM

>And Sheed better than your generic country ass guard.

2076597, Quinn v. Teague is totally winnable
Posted by Basaglia, Wed Nov-21-12 05:26 PM
Kyrie v. knight is the only laughable battle we have.
2077184, That's not even close. One is a NBA player. The other a college backup.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Thu Nov-22-12 03:17 PM
Knight vs Kyrie is the only one that's close.

That P-Patt vs McRoberts thing went up in flames.

Demarcus vs the field of Duke bigs. Flames

Austin vs Doron is close. But that's only cuz Doron is in a diff situation than Austin.

Archie is a future 1st round pick. You saw the 28 pts.

And you dare not mention A.D. and MKG. Cuz you know what it is.

Hopefully you get Jabari and we get Wiggins so we can run that.

Truth is homie, we got too many numbers.
2096803, I love the way Young Harrow has played today...
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Sat Dec-22-12 06:04 PM
and the last few games.

Your car can't go if you don't have that engine.
2097820, C'mon dawg, the new Rupp arena locker room.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Mon Dec-24-12 05:04 PM
This shit is crazy.

2097836, Is Mays getting any tick?
Posted by calminvasion, Mon Dec-24-12 06:20 PM
I was pretty pissed he went to Ky vs us for his fifth year. Mainly cuz I didn't really see him getting much play there, and we could have really used him.
2097854, He plays a lot actually. He's pretty steady.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Mon Dec-24-12 07:13 PM
Nothing spectacular. But he was/is a consistent starter (it fluctuates from game to game) but is normally the first guard off the bench if he doesn't start.

My dude is balling now.

Cal is in ear and has turned him around from scared to play to one of the best Point Guards in America.

We will go as far as he can take us.

“Yea when I did the behind-the-back dribble he took me out and said ‘If you want to be cool you can sit over here’ and I said ‘Okay, I’m not cool anymore’ so he put me back in the game. I was able to finish the game off so everything was good.”
2102529, ***looks at my watch*** Blue Train is right on schedule
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Thu Jan-03-13 12:34 PM
The young guys are coming around.

Can't wait for S.E.C. play.
2109792, Elston Turner (who?) came into Rupp and heated us up for 40
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Sat Jan-12-13 06:21 PM
Some kids get it. And others it takes more time.

Right now we have 2.5 solid players.

Cal's trying to coach them up, but they're just hard headed.

2117937, Good grief. This seesaw continues.

Just when I think the young dudes might've turned the corner. We lose on the road to Alabama after being up by 9 at the half.

Archie, played like shitty Archie again. Forcing drives into shot blockers.

Poythress was nowhere to be found again.

And we didn't have WCS who would've definitely helped out.

The problem is, there's no one to sub out Archie for. And we need Poythress to show us something.

Those 2 need to get their shit together, because this ain't Detroit-Mercy. If y'all niggaz don't play well enough to get drafted, there's better players coming to take your spot.

Aaron and James Young are both already better than Archie.

And if we get a solid 4 Poy will be on the bench too.

Kyle has found that out and has worked harder. Him and Nerlens were the sole bright spots.

Nerlens might be one of the best defenders I've ever seen. He does some wild shit. He's the only one ready to go pro.

But Archie and Alex gonna be faced with a tough reality.

Fuckin Alabama?

Shit.
