A top shelf 2 guard has been a key component to most championship teams over the past 20 years. They can transform a team because of how much they control the ball and how reliant most teams are on that position to produce.
Simple basketball reality here.
Past 5 NBA champs and their main 2 guard:
Mavs - Jet Terry
Lakers - Kobe
Celtics - Ray Ray
Spurs - Manu
Heat - Wade
All guys who made over $10 mil a year, 3 were max players.
Is Harden worth the max? Don't know, but some team will still offer it. Franchises go decades without having a 2 guard as good as him (the Hornets, for example).
Either way Harden is far better than you are giving him credit for. If you can't see his enormous talent then arguing with you about this is pointless.
