because he rubbed Screaming A the wrong way if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure if being smarter is necessarily a good thing in terms of JJ wanting to carve a long term lane for himself at ESPN.

Based on the Youtube clips where he'd going NBA player interviews for his podcast, that seems like a better, more nuanced, and meaningful lane than being just another sullen screaming/talking head on ESPN. Hopefully he'll carve a non-ESPN lane for himself rather than going on First Take is having to bark out his points in the rare silent spaces Screaming A and Madd Dogg will allow him to speak.
