It started with a simple mistake by a friend, we were talking about the 1998 Winter Olympics and he said that the Czech Republic and Slovakia were still Czechoslovakia at that point, which they were not, and I started thinking that even if you combined the two teams today, they wouldn't be very good in hockey or soccer. In the same conversation we were talking about the rift between Vlade and Drazen. So in a sinewy way I started thinking about if the former Yugoslavia and USSR were still united, what would their teams look like today? Yugoslavia in particular would be incredible, I think, and they'd be pretty damn good in basketball, too.
