You are asking several different questions.
>How is Baker more successful?
Greater team success and just won a Heisman. It's nothing personal, just pointing out what are facts. Whether you feel Mayfield was the engine behind one, or deserved the other are a separate matter.
> >Josh Allen went 7 with the same accuracy
He is big and has a huge arm and people think he will be Carson Wentz. They are wrong.
But this is a different question than Mayfield, who is far more accurate than Allen, whose ceiling is Bubby Brister and whose floor is Brody Croyle.
> >Just trying to understand the thought process
Mayfield passes the "just look at the tape" argument. He also had a big last year, which always matters…I still remember when Matt Barkley was looked at as challenging Andrew Luck for the #1 pick before he came back to school and damn near ended up a UDFA.
Mayfield also has the accuracy to soothe the nerves of old-school guys worried about his size, penchant for scrambling, and off-platform throws.
Jackson has the former, but not the latter. Not yet anyway, he could easily end up better than Mayfield.
Mayfield was also one of several guys in a draft full of interesting QB prospects but no clear cut franchise guys, someone had to go first.
