It hasn't been easy figuring out what to make of Liverpool this season, with the team alternating bits of pure brilliance and puzzling indolence. They clearly have the tools to make a run at a top 4 spot, between Sadio Mane being one of the best signings of the summer, Lallana finding his best form anew, and the absence of European fixtures. But with their shaky defense and Mignolet's rickety foot game, nothing is going to be sure for them.
For Chelsea it's been an auspicious start to the Conte era, with the team playing much more solid, as expected. N'golo Kante has instantly become the lynchpin of their midfield, and Costa has been clutchingly efficient. But their defense is unsettled as well, giving up 2 goals through bad mistakes against Swansea, and compounding it with an injury to John Terry. This means today's game will see David Luiz make his second debut for the Blues, as Chelsea fans nervously await and see if Conte can tame his "creative" impulses to suit the system.
Not a lot of other essential fixtures to look forward to, though United could have a tricky game against Watford, after disappointing in their Europa League opener. In Serie A, Sunday's Derby d'Italia will be a good opportunity to gauge if Inter really are back. Juve had a disappointing draw against Sevilla in the Champions League, but the way Higuain has been going, Inter shouldn't take too much comfort in that result.
