Liverpool are reportedly eagerly trying to find a buyer for Mario Balotelli as they bid to free themselves of his £4.5million-per-season wages.

The Italian striker is set to return to Anfield this summer when his season-long loan spell at AC Milan expires.

The 25-year-old has made 18 appearances for Milan, scoring three times and the Serie A side have not been impressed with their former striker.

Milan believed to be paying around £70,000 per week of his £90,000-per-week salary and Milan are not keen to burden themselves with that financial package for a player who has scored just once in Serie A.

Last week Milan CEO Adriano Galliani said: “We really like Mario, but he has to convince us to earn a permanent deal.”

While, the now departed head coach Sinisa Mihajlovic last month admitted: “I think his physical condition is good, but psychologically he’s not quite there yet. He needs to improve mentally, but that has always been his problem.”

Those comments alone will have alerted Liverpool to the fact that Balotelli’s future is unlikely to remain in Italy and, according to the Daily Mail they are desperate to move on the former Manchester City star before they recommence paying his wages in full this summer

Liverpool is trying to drop the wild child. Mario is like, "fuck it, I'm still getting paid like a boss."

China is rumoured to be a viable destination for Balotelli – with many European clubs put off by his tarnished reputation and the fact that he has scored just eight goals in two seasons.

Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning are believed to hold an interest in signing Balotelli, with reports claiming they are willing to offer him £230,000 a week.

Jurgen Klopp has said he will make a decision on the striker’s future in the summer, but he is unlikely to want the player at Anfield and Liverpool may have to pay up Balotelli’s remaining 12 months on his contract.
