we also watch replays in slow motion, which can give the appearance of conscious decisions being made. the reality is the play was too fast. he's clearly trying to use his arms to get up. plus he's on the inside of the baseline. the runner can use that path to home, but why would they? if i played third base for 20 years i still would probably never consider that. and umps are pretty good at calling obstruction, so you're not gonna get away with intentionally tripping someone.
