I'm pretty sure you're right about this but that's kind of bullshit that a team can offer a contract that only exists if a team matches the contract. If they offer a poison pill to keep the Knicks from signing, they should be stuck with that deal.

As it is now, it's basically, "We're going to pay him 15 million in year three, oh you're not going to match, PSYCHE! it's 8 million throughout; no lump payment."
