2010-11 (last completed full season): NBA Average of 6660 FGA .459 FG% 3394 rebounds
1986-87 (random season from Bird's Era): NBA Average of 7281 FGA .480 FG% 3610 rebounds
the difference in average team rebounds is 216, which is only 2.6 more per TEAM per game, which is pretty negligible when spread out across a team's rotation. Bird was just a better rebounder.
