kinda mumbled to myself
not really having much to say
but rarely seeing which
way was up

days rolling into each other
without the valley
of the sun to divide shadows
on either side of
rhode island ave
my gait wavers at unexpected
beauty walking down
the street in the other direction
i think of love
and remember she is waiting
at home for me
i think of life
and light a cigarette
moments are exhaled
little deaths missing
the bus every time
and i'm sure i owe you more
than this
but this
is all i'll ever have
