in the spirit of brother Ralph Ellison:
the black man isn't black
the black man doesn't even exist

59620, there seems the double edged sword though, or not? Posted by mindful, Tue Aug-22-06 06:21 PM
how do you feel about these lines:
the black man doesn't even exist
i... personally felt this was a powerful statement, much powerful than anything i've read on here in several months. it conjured up something quite sad, yet reflective in me.

59643, yes, double-edged indeed...as is the plight of DuBois' Posted by Morehouse, Wed Aug-23-06 09:52 AM
double consciousness theory.
to be an American and African,Black,Brown,Negro,Nigger, etc.
more reflection on this has been stimulated by the recent Spike Lee documentary...how America truly views the importance and value of African-Americans' lives in general. If there was ever an example needed of the lack of compassion and interest in our plight and well-being, Katrina is that and so much more. i will write a poem about this reflection soon.
