Nolan is doing epic, IMAX shot, big-budget Homer?!

He took a 700 page book and turned in one of the best biopics, an epic-sized thriller with the pace of a runaway freight train.

I'm thinking this shit is gonna rule.One of the best fantasy stories ever told on a massive scale.

Is the new technology higher definition than what was used in the past?

I wasn't sure if I'd like it but holy shit that was good. I'd love to see it on real IMAX but not one close so went to an XD screen, it actually went by fast for nearly 3 hours. Loved it

I'm in the camp where I'll see and enjoy any Christopher Nolan movie once, but the odds are usually I won't watch it again.

This is a good time, with plenty to nitpick, but craft-wise, this is about as good modern day big budget filmmaking gets.

Favorite part was the sea-faring island hopping stuff, which isn't surprising because that's where the monsters are. Man the cyclops was well done. And Circe is wild. Very cool ideas for their depictions.

There are some interesting themes but too much dialogue is spent explaining them, and like Dark Knight Rises, it sort of feels overcrowded trying to intercut everyone's separate dramatic moments.

Basically, it's a Nolan movie.

I like Matt Damon, but larger than life mythic hero isn't really in his wheelhouse.

But this is a very hard adaptation to pull off and I don't know if they nailed it, but they get an A for effort.

I live in San Diego and I saw it at the AMC Mission Valley 20 in theatre 17 - the Dolby Cinema theatre.

I've seen a TON of movies in this theatre and the sound system is good - things are LOUD in it and I usually wear earplugs for the action films but this was a whole other level.

Even WITH earplugs in the sound was cranked so loud during the previews I went and ask the usher to call the both and make sure it was set correctly - during that new Jessica Chastain film trailer it was unbearable bass - like the loudest bass your friend with a slammed WV bug has in his car - but it lasted 10 to 20 seconds at a time. What should have been a rumble was a weird and bad sounding low end note - like seeing a film in a theatre that has the speakers in the bottom of the seat and rocks when big bass hits.

When the film started it was even worse - every scene had outrageous bass except the pillow talk scene with Ann Hathaway.

I again asked them to have an usher come in and listen - and they said they would - but they also said people had complained about the sound.

So I bounced.

I didn't even see any "action" except the boat leaving Troy and that had a bass note at maximum volume being held for what seems to be more than 20 seconds.

It was like those old "The audience is listening to THX" bumpers before old movies - just many times louder.

I'll be seeing Spiderman in the same theatre on Thursday - if the sound system is broken I'll report back - but this isn't the first time he's had a bad mix - but it was literally un-pleasant.

I'll watch this one on my 83" OLED and my sound system where I can trim the bass out.

Note: If the "brown note" is ever discovered then Nolan should absolutely be the director of a film about that project.

saw last night (IMAX), still really enjoyed it.. but literally had to pinch my ears in during action scenes all 2nd half (everyone milling around outside after said the same). they should test with a decibel reader before the movie run because im pretty sure that was exceeding 110+

I’m convinced that he mixes movies to be painful to listen to, AND might even have some sort of sexual fetish, saying people wince, and paying while watching his films.

I’m not joking, I actually think he’s being sexually gratified in someway by feeding people sound mixes were in the past they’ve been difficult to understand, and now with this one, where is just too loud.

Some sort of S&M thing.

Plus, he’s an asshole. Somehow, he’s convinced people that he makes films for 40 screens in the US, and that there’s something special about seeing them on those screens. The idea of increased resolution and larger screen sizes is not some magical new concept became up with, this division did this back in the 50s.

TLDR; he’s a jerk

Nolan is the GOAT.

Part of it is I dont see how I can go from IMAX to a 65" TV but none of Nolan's movies are rewatchable for me which is such a weird phenomenon to me because I love rewatching movies i like and i do think he's a master

I don't think people talk enough about how Nolan creates these incredibly fast-paced movies that are just set piece after set piece and never lets up.

Even in Oppenheimer, it seemed like every scene was a climax, even though a lot of it was just talking.

It just seems like you can start his movies at any point, and it doesn't matter what happened before. You can just pick up and start watching.

The films take a lot of energy because they are so bombastic maybe. So much going on that even home viewing gonna take some preparation etc lol.

Though i havent rewatched the kill bills, and my one rewatch of H8ful Eight had me ranking it near the bottom, but id say at least for half of them theyre easy for me

Nolan movies have a seriousness to them where its almost like I appreciate them more than I enjoy them... im not even sure if that's accurate because enjoyed watching this. Was definitely my experience with Oppenheimer though
