750517, Cinematic Caucasity: The Big Chill (1983)

This shit is wild overhyped. A bunch of baby boomers get together at a friend's funeral to discuss how hard life is despite them all being pretty well off. Imagine if Millenials made this shit. Everyone would blow a fucking shit.

Sure it looks nice and the cast is all solid, but miss me with their white ass shit.

Remember when Heniz was hyping up SOLO cause Lawerence Kasdan co-wrote and produced it? Yeah well add this to the list of Kasdan whiffs along with Dreamcatcher, Darling Companion, Mumford, I Love You to Death, French Kiss, and Grand Canyon.

Fuck this shit.
750519, It was a bite of "The Return of the Secaucus Seven"

John Sayles' very unpolished but ultimately good first directorial effort.

I caught it again on some movie channel a few months ago and didn't hate it. Though I agree that it's very white. It was made during a time when boomers were starting to have their "What does it all mean?" identity crisis.

And dismissing Kasdan is still wrong. A bunch of what you listed were clunkers, but I remember liking "I Love You To Death," which he directed, not wrote. And besides, writing Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, ROTJ, Silverado, and Body Heat earn him a lot of good will.
750523, That nigga wrote all that shit before he started directing...

... and it was earlier in his career.

I'll give you Body Heat cause that is a dope noir, but after that?

Yeah...
750524, I will not be tolerating any Silverado slander.

750521, Ha. My dad liked this film.

He went to Michigan and isn't it like a Michigan reunion? I feel like it was his generation and soundtrack and he enjoyed that despite the whiteness of it all.

Gen Xers have been known to make these types of movies about middle class people complaining about there lives like Reality Bytes.

And Millennials did have Girls which has got to be more off putting than this film.

Also, I don't blame Kasdan for Solo, fwiw. I think that was a doomed-ass project from the word go, and the ceiling was always to be a "2.5 stars/plays decently well on TNT" type of thing. A thousand cooks in the kitchen.

I have a friend who has written multiple produced big sci-fi movies, and when I asked him what assignment he *wouldn't* take on, he said Star Wars without blinking. The fan expectation is sky high, the execs won't let you take any risks, and the budget requires you film the entire thing on green screen/Volume with digital sheen. It's such a thankless job.
750529, Like I told mrhood above, Body Heat is dope.

Part of the reason Lord & Miller were fired was because they weren't sticking to the script. A script everyone claimed justified a young Han Solo prequel.

That script sucks.
