748406, Kraven the Hunter (J.C. Chandor, 2023)

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I really like J.C. Chandor's work (for the most part), but this is not the wave.
748407, ATJ doesn't have the voice for a role like this.
Posted by Cold Truth, Mon Jun-19-23 04:56 PM
All I hear is Kick Ass trying to sound hard.

Sony's trying way to hard to milk the Spider-Man IP
748408, Absolutely no one asking for this movie.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Jun-19-23 06:35 PM
748409, My thoughts exactly.
Posted by bwood, Mon Jun-19-23 07:02 PM
And the R-rated violence had me dying. The teenage boys who would likely drop dough on this can't.
748410, Reminds me of a certain scene from Barry.
Posted by stravinskian, Mon Jun-19-23 08:20 PM

"Yeah. I think the person who directed this probably also directed Margin Call."
748412, Did Joker's success give people the wrong idea?
Posted by JFrost1117, Mon Jun-19-23 09:03 PM
Joker himself is a fascinating character, unrelated to Batman, but can be AMAZING when in direct conflict with Batman.

Venom is aight, but not many other Spidey villains are dope without interacting with Spidey himself. Morbs and Kraven are probably at the bottom of that list. It feels like they think they can do whatever movies they want outside of the MCU, but they all feel like misses.

My friend and I get kicks out of what unhinged accent Russell Crowe will do next.
748413, he used this same exact accent in the popes exorcist lol

>My friend and I get kicks out of what unhinged accent Russell
>Crowe will do next.

748415, I posted this on Facebook. Guess I'll post it here too.
Posted by Monkey Genius, Tue Jun-20-23 10:30 AM
This stuff really is subjective because a Kraven movie without Spider-Man or a Gotham without Batman or a Smallville where he never puts on the suit is waaaay more interesting to me than watching the same characters do the same things in the same roles over and over and over and over.

Give me the Bibbo movie. What’s his day like?
748420, Kraven could work well in a Spidey movie
Posted by pretentious username, Tue Jun-20-23 08:29 PM
But, as you said, almost none of Spidey’s villains work without him. You don’t see them fighting other Marvel heroes in the comics all that much besides like Kingpin vs. Daredevil.
748414, is sony just gonna turn all the spidey villains into heroes?
Posted by .Monkeynuts., Tue Jun-20-23 08:51 AM
like who is left to root against?
748417, Nah
Posted by spades, Tue Jun-20-23 11:34 AM
748419, Im glad J.C. Chandor got his bag. That's about it.
Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Tue Jun-20-23 01:47 PM
748458, he liked that Netflix bag and wanted more
Posted by will_5198, Fri Jun-23-23 12:03 AM
kinda sad to think the Margin Call-All is Lost-A Most Violent Year director is gone forever
748422, Tiki Torch Namor??? No thanks.
Posted by Castro, Tue Jun-20-23 08:59 PM
748428, lol
Posted by spades, Wed Jun-21-23 10:47 AM
748429, This does look like it should be pushed back to Jan. 6, 2024 n/m

Keep the crack raps up that shit is double plus what-ever-the-fuck.

748425, The Russell Crow thing
Posted by Lach, Wed Jun-21-23 09:24 AM
So if this is connected to Spiderman, and Spiderman is connected to the MCU, are there any intentions on connecting Kraven? If so, how does it work with Russell being 2 different people? Or will they forever keep this only in the Spider verse?
748431, Too much going on.
Posted by JFrost1117, Wed Jun-21-23 01:11 PM
With all the contract/rights shit, it's hard to thread the needle on how to get all of this shit right. I think Morbius kinda/sorta had an MCU tie-in, because Vulture (Keaton) appeared, trying to say he got there by accident from Dr. Strange's actions in No Way Home. The first trailers showed posters from the fuckin PS4/5 Spider-Man game like that was the resident Spider-Man of this universe. Then they removed it for the release like there's no Spider-Man present.

Venom was in the MCU universe for 2 seconds and never got to see Spider-Man in person.

Sony wants the money that the MCU Spidey movies pull in, but has to keep pump-faking on how these characters relate to Spider-Man while not having a Spider-Man to interact with.
748432, Marvel is just keeping them at arm’s length and will continue to do so.
Posted by pretentious username, Wed Jun-21-23 01:22 PM
“Thanks for letting us use Spidey! Here’s your share… Sure, we can have some tie-ins! We’ll give you a villain everyone forgot about and you give us your best character and we’ll do basically nothing with them. Sound good?”

It’s smart, but damn would I love to see Hardy’s Venom and Holland’s SpiderMan interact.
748433, I mean... do we expect this guy and Zeus to ever share a movie?
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Jun-21-23 01:24 PM
Because if not, it doesn't really matter, does it? lol

Besides, he'd be far from the first actor to play multiple people in the MCU.
748434, I get that lol
Posted by Lach, Wed Jun-21-23 01:35 PM
But I'm just sayin. So far I don't recall seeing an actor doing different marvel universes simultaneously like that. It's just kinda interesting to see.
748435, Brolin played Cable and Thanos at around the same time
Posted by pretentious username, Wed Jun-21-23 04:43 PM
>But I'm just sayin. So far I don't recall seeing an actor
>doing different marvel universes simultaneously like that.
>It's just kinda interesting to see.

I doubt they bring Cable into Deadpool 3, but who knows? He was great in the role.
748446, you're right. I absolutely forgot about that one
Posted by Lach, Thu Jun-22-23 01:42 PM
The Woodard one was kinda different but I forgot about her too.
748453, That was just a case of Netflix not communicating w/ Marvel lol
Posted by pretentious username, Thu Jun-22-23 10:37 PM
>The Woodard one was kinda different but I forgot about her
>too.
748436, Alfrie Woodard
Posted by JiggysMyDayJob, Wed Jun-21-23 05:06 PM
She played two different people in two different things. I think there are a few other folks that have as well.

I mean, it doesn't matter. We're watching superhero movies, so just keep suspending your disbelief.
748454, gemma chan
Posted by howisya, Thu Jun-22-23 11:15 PM
played a different character in eternals just 2 years after being in captain marvel
748457, it doesn't look good
Posted by will_5198, Fri Jun-23-23 12:02 AM
but it looks about the same as Ant Man, The Eternals, Shang-Chi, Black Adam, Shazam, Doctor Strange...ie, not anything drastically worse than the majority of non-tentpole comic book movies
748485, Way too much unnecessary violence for families
Posted by spirit, Sun Jun-25-23 01:50 AM
And not well written enough to draw in enough adults.

I mean, not that I have a stake in the box office in a random Sony movie, but kinda wondering who this is for. Teenagers?

Peace,

751151, My guess is the market for this is the IRS.
Posted by Cold Truth, Thu Dec-05-24 05:14 PM
A decent write off while throwing everything Spiderman related at the wall in hopes something, anything, mercifully sticks even a little.

In terms of who will actually pay money to watch, I’m betting the theater smells like Axe and whatever their girlfriends wear.

I’d assume I’d be surrounded by people who talk, inappropriately laugh, and look at their phone in movie theaters.
751147, First 8 minutes are up.

Not watching the 8 minutes above as I'm seeing this Tuesday night.

But I can't stop laughing at how this was supposed to drop in August of 2023.
751149, I genuinely forget it exists until they put new trailers out.
Posted by JFrost1117, Thu Dec-05-24 02:17 PM

>But I can't stop laughing at how this was supposed to drop in
>August of 2023.

Like, “Oh, you’re still doing that thing, eh?”
751154, I thought it already came out and flopped, I was surprised to see
Posted by calij81, Fri Dec-06-24 07:18 PM
a trailer for it when I watched Gladiator 2 and was confused.
751168, Exactly what you'd expect from a R-rated solo Kraven movie
Posted by bwood, Wed Dec-11-24 11:02 AM
Congratulations to Sony. Even they managed to take J.C. Chandor and have him turn in something so generic, boring, and soulless.

Fred Hechinger innocent.

"Kraven with a K"

"I'm like a Chameleon"

"I transform into a Rhino"

What the fuck was up with Christopher Abbott's character?!
751169, I'll wait for streaming.
Posted by JFrost1117, Wed Dec-11-24 04:42 PM
I can't get publicly Morb'd.
751170, really hard to believe
Posted by will_5198, Wed Dec-11-24 08:08 PM
the director behind Margin Call and All is Lost did this and Triple Frontier
751172, Yikes. Guess I'll wait a couple months for a 4k download
Posted by Lach, Fri Dec-13-24 07:30 PM
751173, Why do I keep doing this to myself?
Posted by pretentious username, Fri Dec-13-24 11:02 PM
I mean if I didn’t have an AMC A-List account, I would not have seen this or Morbius on the big screen. Still, when I found out the theater I was going to didn’t serve beer I was cursing myself. At least parts of Madame Web and Morbius were fun bad. This was a chore to get through.

The only real positive I can give is everyone involved was trying. No one here is phoning it in, the material just isn’t there (there’s like one good Kraven story, and of course it involves Spidey) and the Sony formula really doesn’t work outside of the Venom movies.

Rhino might be the worst villain they’ve had in this series. And as bwood alluded to: Christopher Abbot’s character is completely unnecessary and poorly explained.
751297, Finally watched this past weekend and I said the same thing
Posted by Lach, Tue Jan-28-25 10:09 PM
I don't know what to say or think any more about these projects. Sony is messing up. The MCU has been messing up. Just when Agatha All Along picked me up and dusted me off, I watch Kraven and end up in the dirt again.
751397, ”My grandma died shortly after that and I never saw her again.”
Posted by JFrost1117, Sat Mar-15-25 05:05 AM
This was the funniest shit in the movie, over the varying Russian-English accents.

I come from a long line of military-grade cussers, but the profanity in this was super forced.

No idea who the guy in the shades is supposed to be, and it’s not even worth the research. But, we do know the chick is Calypso, because everyone has to say her name in most sentences during a convo with her.

Venom has been varying degrees of entertaining, but they’ve definitely swung 3 strikes with everything else. Have some nuts and give this shit back to Marvel.
