747780, Beef (Wong, Yuen, Cho) 2023 - Neflix

This was quite a journey. It presents as a tale about revenge, but ultimately it seems to be about confronting out worst parts, and what avoiding doing that does to you and those around you.

I enjoyed it quite a bit.
747864, finished it last night. all time great season of TV imo

Agreed.

By the episode 5, it was already my #1 Netflix original series of all time. And I like a lot of Netflix stuff.

Yup. Once I was able to watch a whole episode uninterrupted, I finished the whole season super fast.

Ali Wong is great in this, but Steven Yuen really surprised me. I always thought he was good, but his performance as Daniel really caught me off guard. He was funny, angry, raging, sensitive, spiritual, petty, musical, athletic, ditsy, nerdy, toxic, and nurturing all in one character. That boy can sing and play, too. I never knew..

David Cho wasn't bad either. It's like he can do anything, too.

Compelling storylines and characters/acting, great writing. Kept me engaged throughout. Also perfect episode lengths @ 35ish minutes.

Is this gonna be a multi-season series ? A lot was left unfinished but nothing that necessarily *needs* tying up, IMO. But I'd be fine with more time with these characters.
747894, I beleive they're gonna anthologize
Posted by Mynoriti, Sat Apr-22-23 07:04 PM
I heard that second hand but there's no reason they shold stay with this group... as much as I loved everyone.

It would just be some kind of Corbra Kai thing where they almost mak up and something re-ignites the beef. It'd get stale pretty quick

747896, Good points.

747963, I thought this was limited.

NO reason to pick this back up, but if they're gonna continue to operate on this level, yes, anthologize.

Could be really good.

But I can’t think of a spoiler free way to explain how.

I guess I could just give a spoilers warning…..

Really don’t read further if you haven’t seen it…

David Cho has beef with Steven Yuen now. No idea how he could get out of prison tho. Parole?

Yuen and Wong get together and the husband has beef?

The daughter faces a bully at school. Toddler Beef then the mom has beef with that kid’s mom

Maybe continue the beef Cho has with the Filipinos (?) in prison

LOL this can go any number of ways

Work in flashbacks to Cho fucking up the motel

Too many of these ideas involve David Choe, and based on the whole rape story scandal... I'm thinking the creators would be happy to not even have him back again. His character's in prison and was only a supporting character in the first place. With the negative press, it's probably easier to just leave him alone.
748151, Dude claims he made it all up
Posted by spirit, Sun May-21-23 08:47 PM
No victim has come forward

At this point it looks like a very stupid joke (also thought the cast came out to support him but didn’t even click the headline to read further)

Still pretty bizarre that he decided to make his fictional victim Black if it really was made up. Like why add that detail

Peace,

Spirit (Alan)
