745007, Neptune Frost was pretty ambitious but… Posted by spirit, Sun Jun-26-22 06:50 PM
…definitely not for everyone.
Bordering on stream of consciousness with far slower pacing than the average American filmgoer is likely used to.
Hard to think of an analogue to this film
Shoutout to Saul for trying to get all these ideas out in one film, probably would have been better suited as a four parter on a streaming service
Cinema where I saw it had an intermission and some people didn’t come back afterward
Definitely curious to hear thoughts from others on it
It certainly matches his poetry

745101, Thats a pretty terrible way to present the film Posted by Castro, Sun Jul-03-22 07:03 PM
Its a science fiction, Afrofuturist Musical written by a poet that was originally a stage piece.
All that considered its a pretty amazing film that deliberately goes against american film conventions because its audience is broader than that.

745359, I judge films by what is on the screen Posted by spirit, Sat Jul-23-22 09:40 PM
I’m very familiar with Saul’s work and I know the work started as a stage play/musical.
But that doesn’t change what was on the screen.
I think you’d be on stronger ground presenting what you thought was good about the film than criticizing me for not complimenting it enough?
The cinematography was dope, as were the costumes, if you want me to accentuate the positive.
