741204, Kinda made me miss Iron Fist. Posted by JFrost1117, Mon Apr-19-21 09:15 AM
Slightly. Either way, I have no expectations. I’m not not going to see an MCU movie, especially after the pandemic-forced drought.

I wouldn’t pay for it but it was a nice watch on the couch. They flip up the ninja lore a bit

742041, It really is enjoyable Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Sun Sep-05-21 12:28 AM
The acting was good enough and the action was really well done. I went in with no expectations and walked away pleased.
I'd watch another GI Joe Origin movie.

742034, DOPE. Posted by Castro, Thu Sep-02-21 09:22 PM
Its a Marvel movie but its also a love letter of sorts to Tsui Hark, the King of Kung Fu fantasy blockbusters.
Will comment more after more folks check in.

742039, One of the better recent Marvel movies. Posted by Frank Longo, Sat Sep-04-21 02:33 PM
And the action is certainly miles above the action from the recent TV shows. Shit, might even be some of the best action in the MCU across the board. (Although there's still too much cutting and too much CGI veneer, especially at the finale.)
Really, the thing works as well as it does because of Liu and Leung. Appealing, charming lead. Complex, magnetic villain. Plus, any movie where you can throw Michelle Yeoh into the mix to train people to fight can't be *all* bad. Again, wish there was less CGI, since Liu, Leung, and Yeoh on their own can clearly carry choreography. But their credibility, both in and out of fights, hooks you in.
Still has some of the same issues that the Marvel movies have started to take on since it got so large, but I felt the emotional stakes here more than any MCU movie since... Black Panther, maybe? Easily a top half MCU movie. Maybe top third.

742040, Crouching Tiger meets Zilla V. Kong among Crazy Rich Asians Posted by spenzalii, Sat Sep-04-21 03:33 PM
Felt like 3 movies in one. Early fight scenes were cool, and I love me some Yeoh. Some of the CGI didn't look done, especially in the last act. End credits waaaaaaaay too on the nose, but gave a lot to speculate on. Better in parts than as a whole, but enjoyable all the same. B+ to B for me. Go see it, but if you wait for it to hit Disney+, probably won't be the end of the world (but won't help the box office)

742042, Per my fight preference, Posted by JFrost1117, Sun Sep-05-21 04:29 AM
They really haven't topped any of the Daredevil hallway fights. The styles used in Shang-Chi, and even Iron Fist, were like "block, block block, strike, take a hit, block the next hit, block, block, block", where DD fought to knock niggas clean the fuck out.

742049, That was great Posted by CaptNish, Mon Sep-06-21 12:47 AM
I wouldn’t say the trailers worried me, but my excitement level wasn’t Marvel high for this, but I was dumb, because this was great. And they brought back my man Trevor!!! Bring on the Eternals!!

742052, Saw it in a drive-in - some information was missing Posted by handle, Tue Sep-07-21 11:17 AM
Any fight scene in the dark was also un-followable a the drive-in.
I think this is a mid-tier Marvel film - I'm fine with it.
Enjoyed it, but not too much. (I enjoyed Ant-man too much.)
|
742141, ah damn it was all quite visible in a regular theatre Posted by wrecknoble, Wed Sep-22-21 08:11 AM
i had a great time watching it!

I enjoyed it until the final climactic fight scene... right when Shang Chi started fighting his dad, it got kinda dark and i closed my eyes for a sec cuz I was straining to see.. ended up passing out and not waking up until their little lantern lighting ceremony. I missed the entire action sequence. lol

742165, Spoiler/speculation Posted by JFrost1117, Thu Sep-23-21 07:22 PM
Post credits scene: Are the 10 Rings, as a complete item/set, restored Soul Stone energy?

743049, just (finally) watched this. *latepass theatre*. shit went hard. Posted by poetx, Thu Dec-23-21 01:16 AM
i kept my expectations low, and i'd heard some hype that had me nervous, but this was dope.
some of the best kung fu choreography i've seen in a blockbuster flick, and certainly in the mcu.
plot was solid, and they did a great job between the physical and mystic. i can buy shang chi as a top tier marvel hero after that.
and this makes up for my disappointment w/ iron fist (mostly w/ the dude playing danny - everyone else was pretty dope).
peace & blessings,
x.
