741056, Invincible (TV series, Amazon Prime)
Posted by handle, Wed Mar-31-21 12:45 AM
ANOTHER superhero series - this one based on the comic by Robert Kirkman.

Ep 1 had a little too much whiny/emo stuff about someone who is expecting powers but doesn't yet have them and is in high school - but by the end of the post credit screen I was intrigued.

Stay for the ENTIRE episode 1 -including post credits- and you might be in for the series.

The Guardians of the Globe are voiced by the cast of the Walking Dead.

More voices by Steven Yeun, Sandra Oh ,J. K. Simmons,Zachary Quinto, Gillian Jacobs, Jason Mantzoukas ,Khary Payton, Walton Goggins, Reginald VelJohnson , Seth Rogen, Mark Hamill and a ton more.

741059, I had the first 100 issues in Trades, LOVED IT. But question...

is the animation as shoddy as it looks in the trailers?
741060, It's not the best but it's clean enough
Posted by JiggysMyDayJob, Wed Mar-31-21 08:28 AM
It has a very anime look and feel to it, but it's not terrible.

As a reader of the entire comic, I loved the first 3 eps and they do truncate the story so the show moves quick enough to keep people watching in its 42-60 minute run time.

I don't even want to talk about how amazing the voice talent is for this show.

Show gets a 11.5 out of 10 for me because I've been waiting for Invincible to be adapted and this came through.
741071, looks fine to me. reminds me of the Boondocks visually.

741064, On board with it so far

Never read the comics but I figured that either the Dad was gonna turn evil or be killed to motivate the son going forward, cause 45 minutes of “when am I gonna get my powers?!” was pretty grating. I still think this might be better with 25-30 min episodes, but I’m intrigued enough to watch through this season at least. The voice cast is very good.
741066, I'm in.

*skatin' the rings of saturn*

..and miles to go before i sleep...
741083, Should I read the comic?
Posted by Mafamaticks, Sat Apr-03-21 10:54 PM
I see Seth Rogen and his boy attached to this as exec producers and I didn't like what they did with Preacher
741095, I would say read the comic if interested
Posted by JiggysMyDayJob, Mon Apr-05-21 04:08 PM
but the show is different from Preacher, Kirkman was deeply involved with it's creation and you can see that here. I think Rogen and Crew just stuck to the producing side this round
741331, I just watched S1
Posted by Mafamaticks, Mon May-03-21 10:25 AM
I'm hooked.

I'm gonna read the comic cause this wait for S2 is gonna kill me
741333, Enjoy

It's a lot in there that the show truncated, but If you liked the show, the comic will def entertain you.
741096, we're loving this show...

never read the comics, but this show on its own is really really good so far (4 eps in). right now its our 'go to' series.

really diggin it and, in spite of the fact that this 'kind of show/world' has been seen in some other shows before, this one still is fresh in many ways and manages to surprise me often.
some really great voice acting going on in it too.

thumbs up over here
741118, Battle Beast crushed the buildings this week
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Fri Apr-09-21 05:17 PM
really like how this weeks ep played off w/ it being a scheme by Titan all along. Mark gotta smarten up I see why OmniMan kicks it how he does.
741265, this is the best comic show/movie since Justice League Unlimited
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Fri Apr-23-21 04:12 PM
i cannot wait to find out OmniMan's reasons for all of this and where it's about to go. He got that Homelander energy where everything he does has you on edge but he's actually competent and mentally stable
741278, RE: this is the best comic show/movie since Justice League Unlimited

yep...

im trying to stay offline as much as possible in order to avoid potentially seeing any spoilers to the above...but i, like you, am just wondering whats was/is goin as far as that goes...(dont wanna say more about it than that lol :)

but yeah, the way they're telling the story, and letting it unfold for us, is very very well done imo...keeps me guessing and often surprised...

have you listened to

741277, this show is damn good
Posted by Voodoochilde, Sun Apr-25-21 03:21 AM
again, i havent read the source material, but this show, on its own is so damn good. yeah, its our current favorite...look forward to it every week.
741319, even Broly aint whoop up on Goku and Vegeta this bad
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Fri Apr-30-21 09:44 AM
that was legit horrifying man. took his son an an asswhooping murder spree tour of the world. called his momma a pet. had the whole ocean to aim for but nah straight thru the cruise ship.

my god Invincible is everything superhero media has been missing for me. true malice and practicality from its characters but also a DEEP DEEP reverence for the media/artform. The Boys can get a bit "haha comic books" at times
741323, maaaaan....we were SCARED to watch this episode lol....

...wife and i were actually ANXIOUS before hitting play on the remote for this ep. Up to this point, this show has surprised us and shown us that it is NOT afraid to be honest and take legit chances in a variety of ways....so we KNEW going in we could expect the unexpected....

but DANG....even KNOWING that going in, as we watched the episode we were STILL all 'mouth agape' and "Holy #@!!! Horrified, Crushed, Amazed...

heard it just got renewed for 2 more seasons. I hope folks dont sleep on this show....i thought this was gonna be just an animated version of "The Boys" (which is a show i dug the hell out of too)....but nope, while there may be some 'surface level' similarities, THIS show is something ELSE. i absolutely LOVE it.
741327, I def dont remember the subway scene being in the comic...
Posted by KnowOne, Mon May-03-21 09:37 AM
WOW 0_0
741329, This episode made me wish The Boys was an animated series
Posted by JiggysMyDayJob, Mon May-03-21 10:11 AM
You're just able to do so much more in that medium.

This was the episode that I was waiting for the most cause I knew it was going to go hard. The met my expectations plus, I just can't wait for this series to keep going cause the comic goods sooo much better. I'm just curious how far they will go with some of the storyline.
741330, Spoilers: Vince arrives in season 2
Posted by handle, Mon May-03-21 10:15 AM
It all make sense now.
741341, Awesome, just kept getting better through the season
Posted by pretentious username, Wed May-05-21 04:04 PM
Like The Boys, I’m probably gonna go read the comics before season 2 comes out. I’m really curious how the Robot character develops.
748680, FINALLY (sort of) back: Atom Eve special is live. S2 in December
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Sat Jul-22-23 08:52 AM
Atom Eve special was fire. What a fucked up backstory. Insane fight at the end too
749381, season 2 finally out. 4 eps weekly now. 4 more in the spring (ep 1 spoiler)
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Sun Nov-05-23 10:36 AM
i think the highlight of the first ep for me is the Angstrom Levy backstory. nice play on the Council of Reeds x evil supergenius trope

i read in the comic book he just hates Mark off the rip but this was a good flip on it. on one hand he made his own mess out of good intentions, but on the other hand he actually does have a reason to hate mark now that he's burdened w/ all the memories of his other selves. unique take

also seeing Mark and Omniman be full evil on some Mortal Kombat shit was fun.

show continues to remain clear of all current movie/TV media by some distance. it's in that DCAU level
749391, I am so tired of multiverse stories at this point
Posted by Hitokiri, Tue Nov-07-23 11:59 AM
I hope that's not the route they're going here.
749394, i think they will use the multiverse more strategically
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Tue Nov-07-23 01:35 PM
show via Angstrom fucked up brain some of the shit that has happened in other timeline. this gives us potential for some wild scenes/sequences. but the stakes in the main universe will remain the focus
749400, You may as well check out now
Posted by Cold Truth, Wed Nov-08-23 12:10 PM
I don't want to spoil anything specific

But this season definitely won't be for you if that's the case.

749401, I love the concept of a multiverse
Posted by Cold Truth, Wed Nov-08-23 12:11 PM
In any medium.

I'm all for it and I hope they keep the core comics story line intact on that.
749403, Don't get me wrong, I too enjoy it as a concept
Posted by Hitokiri, Wed Nov-08-23 12:21 PM
And there's a bunch of things multiverse stories, I love:

Everything Everywhere All At Once
Spiderverse
Rick and Morty
Loki

But it feels like in the past few years -- everything is a multiverse story. It's starting to wear thin to me.
749405, That wasn't a shot. I'm just an ardent fan of the idea.
Posted by Cold Truth, Wed Nov-08-23 12:46 PM
Keep it coming, I say.

But I can still see how that prevalence would wear on some people.
749392, season 2 ep 1 was really good
Posted by spades, Tue Nov-07-23 01:16 PM
A return to form. I was worried it somehow wouldn't be as good, but nah, this angstrom cat seems really cool, and it's kind of fucked up that his goal has changed, because what he was working on sounded AMAZING.

Oh, and evil mark. FUCK!

Omni man was like, yo I missed lunch, let's eat! Mark is like, yeah, let me kill these mfs first, then we out.

smh

Holy shit!
749510, I bounced off of this super-hard a few months ago.
Posted by JFrost1117, Mon Nov-27-23 06:40 PM
Just couldn't get into it, I don't know why. After playing Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat 1, I tried it again and just finished S1E8 a few minutes ago.

Top-notch voice cast. "Principal Winslow" made me fall out of my chair. Seth Rogen is the non-Marvel-DC comic book god.
