I honestly couldn't fathom how weak it was. And I wanted to love it
738855, nothing weak about it *shrugs*

and getting universally panned as a flop for a reason.

i could only get through the 1st few episodes.

its mostly aimless filler and unfunny. seems like something they rushed out to meet the moment and still be current event commentary.

its rated in the 6s on imdb. which is *extremely* bad for a show. especially a netflix show. but that feels about right.
738860, I have never cared what rotten tomatoes/imdb rate things

738857, It’s amusing after a few episodes

I don’t think we had a strong enough introduction to Steve Carell’s character, I’m still trying to figure out who he’s supposed to be. He may be miscast here, the rest of the cast is fantastic, I’ll watch Malkovich in anything.
738858, Dipped mid-way through episode 2

This was the show I thought Mythic Quest would be

738867, What a lot of effort for "huh, alright I guess"

Why does Steve Carrell periodically shift into a gruff voice like he's a child pretending to be a general? Is it a character choice? Like the general is really insecure? Why did they introduce that his wife is in federal prison and then not follow up on that for one or two entire episodes? Are they just trying to build up suspense for the gag/twist and have no sense of rhythm? Why does the daughter interact with actual adults like that and nobody bats an eye? Are they going to finish forcing the friendship with her and the helicopter pilot or just shrug and walk away? Are they going to give the helicopter pilot more to do because I think she might be pretty funny but I can't be certain unless she is more than the main character's high school daughter's adult friend? Did they intend to make Jimmy O. Yang's character basically redundant with John Malkovich's character? It doesn't seem necessary at all but they're obviously not going to split up that screen time equally right? Does this show want to be political or not? If it does, do they think this is the moment America wants a Parks-and-Recreation vision of politics wherein a bunch of good intentioned misfits collaborate to solve all our dumb problems? If yes, did they watch The Mayor? Would anybody else much rather watch a show where the military service chiefs just act like weird, aggressive assholes to each other?

I have other questions about this show, and I may watch it long enough to get the answers to them. This show seems like such a fascinating and of-the-moment mediocrity. Conceived in a lab to appeal to every single comic instinct of late Gen-X, early millenial white managerial class dipshit like me but it comes out in something menacing and uncanny.
738874, BTW, anyone who wants Veep in space should watch Avenue 5.

Fantastic show. I don't know how it was ignored as much as it was.

I haven't watched Space Force, but Steve Carell has always annoyed me.

I've heard mixed things and that, paired with Josh Gad, put me off. But I'll give it a shot on your recommendation.

738876, Gad normally annoys the hell out of me.

But here, as a cross between Elon Musk and Donald Trump, I think he was great.
738886, Terrible trailers made it the first HBO show in a long time I skipped
Posted by Nodima, Mon Jun-08-20 10:33 AM
Maybe I'll give it a shot at some point, the pedigree is def. strong, but those trailers were so weak.

I thought it was pretty bad. Watched first 5 or 6 episodes, didn’t finish the season.

739021, Same, made it to 4 episodes

it’s not the highest level of half hour comedy
but it was pretty good.
739018, great season. hilarious after the first episode
Posted by justin_scott, Sun Jul-05-20 03:10 AM
first episode was just okay, but after that, the show was awesome.
739028, Did you know that was Jimmy O Yang's dad? lol
Posted by Heinz, Mon Jul-06-20 10:18 PM
The story of him becoming an actor is fucking hilarious. He told it on Rogan a few weeks ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQJ6qZcn7Fk
