a lot of the funniest to me were in animation:

The Angry Birds Movie (2016)
Despicable Me 2 (2013)
Finding Dory (2016)
Isle of Dogs (2018)
The Lego Movie (2014)
Paddington (2014)
The Pirates! Band of Misfits (2012)
Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019)
Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018)
Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015)
Teen Titans GO! to the Movies (2018)
Turbo (2013)

straight comedies rarely seemed to deliver. very few, perhaps only one, seem like they will become classics watched for decades to come, which is too bad. i would chalk a lot of that up to political correctness. people are scared to laugh, so those movies don't get made anymore. it's hard to imagine some of what are regarded as comedy classics being received well today because of the territories they explored. there doesn't seem to be the same freedom, and people really don't want their beliefs challenged by a movie. it's also clear there is a deficit of active comedic geniuses, at least on screen. some standouts among slim pickings:

Blockers (2018)
Bridesmaids (2011)
Get Him to the Greek (2010)
The Heat (2013)
They Came Together (2014)
What We Do in the Shadows (2014)

you called it with Cross Genre. these were thought provoking and covered more bases by being more than comedies. nowadays, you have to do it all.

The Big Short (2015)
Four Lions (2010)
Game Night (2018)
Joker (2019)
Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (2019)
Pain & Gain (2013)
Parasite (2019)
pk (2014)
Ready or Not (2019)
Sorry to Bother You (2018)
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016)
Why Don't You Play in Hell? (2013)
