736656, Disney+ got everything.
Posted by bwood, Tue Nov-12-19 06:05 AM
Yo I finished watching The Mandolorian. There's so much on this app it's nuts.

Gargoyles b.

The 90s X-Men cartoon.

Darkwing Duck.

All versions of DuckTails.

Bonkers.

TailSpin.

A fucking Jeff Goldblum show.

So. much. content.
736658, I'm about to start watching The Mandalorian now
Posted by BigWorm, Tue Nov-12-19 07:01 AM
My only slight beef with Disney+ is their insistence on family content only. That excludes a lot of R-Rated Fox content.

I thought it was going to go head to head with some other streaming services. This is going to make a killing no doubt, but I'm not sure it's going to TKO Amazon or Netflix. Maybe they're not even trying to.
736660, To your point of more adult content...

It requires a subscription (nope nope nope).
736663, okay The Mandalorian was pretty nice
Posted by BigWorm, Tue Nov-12-19 07:57 AM
Visually they knocked it out of the park.

Story-wise, well, let's see where it goes. It held my interest to be sure, but that last little bit at the end, that was the clincher. No spoilers since shit JUST came out, but I think Star Wars fans will be pleased.

736667, im debating if i should wait for more content to come out
Posted by mista k5, Tue Nov-12-19 12:38 PM
got a free year through verizon that i can wait to activate until june 2020

seeing that it has the x-men cartoon almost made me open a new tab lol
736674, I'd wait
Posted by BigWorm, Tue Nov-12-19 02:32 PM
Don't get me wrong, I didn't wait, and The Mandalorian is really really good...

But the new content is pretty light right now. I think Disney realized that, which is why they are releasing their shows episode by episode instead of letting people binge the whole season in one sitting.

Unless I mean you are in it to watch some of the newer films and classics that you've probably already seen before. In terms of replay value Disney+ is more than worth it.

Personally, my kids will love it, but I doubt I'll re-watch anything on it except maybe the last half hour of Endgame.

Bottom line: I'd wait a couple of months.
736676, Thats not why they released it like that
Posted by Heinz, Tue Nov-12-19 03:29 PM
and im glad they didnt just make a shit load of shows and are taking their time especially since the quality is like this. Look how crazy it is to think they should have 30 diff shows at this Mandalorian quality LOL WTF.

They released it one by one to keep people talking and interested like they seen with HBO shows. And having it one by one where the series finale is AFTER the release of their big movie Episode 9 just keep the Star Wars fandom going and going. Makes so much sense. Why release it all and then have it get lost of the amount of tv shows that are already out there in the world of streaming. Look how quickly people stopped talking about Stranger Things 3 and that shit was fucking great.

IG @erichrigonan
736710, sure, but you gotta admit, they started light on original content
Posted by BigWorm, Wed Nov-13-19 02:40 PM
Personally I see it both ways. You're not wrong, going back to the old structure of releasing episodes over time does make the show, let's say 'less disposable', but also if they released it all in one batch, they wouldn't have that much else to offer in original content. The Marvel Shows, the Obi-Wan show--all of that is more than a year away. The World According to Jeff Goldblum is probably not going to bring in subscribers by the thousands lol.
736673, At the current price point and all the content already there
Posted by soulfunk, Tue Nov-12-19 02:28 PM
it's pretty much a no brainer. If you have 12 months free you can activate, just do it now and if you don't think there's enough content to warrant paying $7 per month then cancel in a year.

736726, I think they could possibly add all their Hulu and EPSN shit on there
Posted by Heinz, Thu Nov-14-19 12:48 PM
once they eventually buy everyone out of the Hulu deal. They would be able to really maximize that whole FOX acquisition. Theres no reason why they cant have adult content and ESPN content on Disney+. Netflix splits up the kids section very well and Disney can afford to figure out the best way for parental control features if they don't like the current model of that feature. But having everything centralized at Disney+ will be the real Netflix killer especially if they invest in getting rights to more live sports streaming other than UFC and college stuff.

but the content seems thin as hell to me.

bought it because i have two toddlers and the wife wants to show them all the 80s/90s classics that we grew up on, but a half dozen cartoons and a few new ones ain't really giving me long-term value.

netflix still has a shitload more things i want to watch than Disney+. I can't see myself ever putting on Disney+ after the kids go to bed, unless the Jeff Goldblum remake of Bourdain's show is any good.

Posted by BigWorm, Thu Nov-14-19 02:30 PM
I can see it getting old really quickly though.

And I agree. I DO like the Star Wars and Marvel franchises, but that only means I am about to pay $6.99 a month for exactly one show, with the promise of another quality show in the fall of 2020.

Other than that it's just some shit for my kids to watch.

Guess I was just hoping for a little more.

Maybe they have more cards up their sleeves on the way. I don't need R-Rated cussing and murder in a show, but they gotta give something for the grown folks to watch after the kids go to bed. Duck Tales is not going to do it for me.

with a wide variety of new original content. At launch, just having all the stuff there from existing Disney properties is well worth the price of admission. As time goes on, yeah I'm expecting them to include more original content. But at the price they are charging they could have dropped it with just the vault and it would be worth it. which, in fairness seems to be the general consensus, but in logging on and perusing the library, all i see is a fairly small handful of past marquee titles and an extremely slim offering of new original content.

i'm not so much shitting on the platform as much as pushing back on this widely-held notion that it's exploding with reams and reams of content.

It's got like a half dozen classic animated movies + a half dozen star wars movies (half of which are ass) + a bunch of marvel movies (which some people like).

Though I will be binging through Gargoyles, and both versions of Duck Tales (I'm surprised the OG still holds up pretty well, and how I don't hate the updated version).

Biggest issue seems to be episodes being out of order on some shows. I'd rather not need to check an episode guide online, but Disney will get to fixing it at some point.

736819, unless you have kids, or are nostalgic for old shows/movies
Posted by BigWorm, Wed Nov-20-19 07:38 AM
You're right, IMO it isn't really worth it. I guess unless you are willing to wait a whole year for the Marvel shows to start up. Only by then, if you signed up for a year subscription, it will probably be up for renewal around the time Falcon and Winter Soldier is about to get released.

Personally I have kids so I will get my money's worth out of it. But if I didn't, The Mandalorian would not have been enough to warrant the $$$.

But it's Disney, they are like the industry hydra right now, I'm still hoping that they have more up their sleeves on the way.

release of tentpole shows at least during this first year. After The Mandalorian ended the next original series is The Clone Wars season 7 dropping next month, but that's just an additional season of an old show, and doesn't cast a wide net.

They should have had something like Falcon & Winter Soldier ready to drop a couple months after The Mandalorian. I know there's a Pixar series coming out, obviously more Marvel shows and Star Wars shows, but looking at the dates all this stuff isn't dropping for a while.
737821, yeah

I don't know if you read, but they recently pushed up the release date for WandaVision to later this year. Maybe they realized they spread themselves to thin. I don't know if it is because people are dropping Disney+ or what. I can just say personally I know a lot of people that were like, The Mandolorian is done and so am I. Even more people don't want to mess with Disney+ at all until there's more exciting new content than just The Mandolorian.

Posted by Nodima, Fri Jan-17-20 05:40 PM
Having not seen Winter Soldier before Endgame I've come to realize how these movies feel really linked together in some cool ways, I get why I didn't understand some of the biggest story beats in Endgame as much as the people sitting next to me (on your left, for example).

Maybe it was just an off night, but Disney+ kinda sucks at streaming. I never had issues with Mandalorian, but these movies would constantly slow down to a crawl or speed up to hyperspeed for seemingly no reason while the audio would remain constant, and then the feed would either lock up, immediately revert to where the glitch started or just stay where the glitch stopped and it was never predictable which it'd be. I was already sick so it just made for another series of downbeat moments in my day.

Posted by pretentious username, Sat Jan-18-20 09:10 PM
Had a lot of problems with movies timing out part way through. It wasn't the internet cause we'd switch over to my prime account if I owned the movie and it played just fine.

On my brother's AppleTV it would sometimes play the audio from the last tv show I watched while I watched something else. Never seen anything like that before and it's really annoying to have to shut an app down to get it working right again.

Like I said, the problems are smoothing out, but those were some weird glitches.

I will say that I think the layout is a little better than Netflix/Prime/Hulu (and miles better than HBO GO), although that's partially because the library is not as expansive.
