736442, it was great

great performances all around but I can totally see an award nomination coming for Eddie and/or Wesley.
736446, Wesley stole the show
Posted by MaxPtah, Fri Oct-25-19 04:47 PM
Everyone was great in this, but Eddie and Wesley stood out by far.
736447, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would

I’ve never been a Dolemite fan, but this movie was really good. As mentioned in another post, the whole cast was good, but Da’Vine Joy Randolp’s performance stood out for me, the scene where she first met Dolemite was such a great scene.

The one thing I wondered about was whether he reached out to the homeless guys he was inspired by. I’ll re-watch because I may have missed it since I was doing other stuff while it was on.

Loved it! I also thought Wesley stole the show.
736450, i expected the eddie performance. wesley caught me off guard tho.

glad this is getting love across the board.

hopefully wesley sees more opportunities because of it.
736451, This was a lot of fun and very sweet

anchored by a trio of amazing performances (Murphy, Snipes, and Joy Randolph).

Ran a little long but not enough to detract from everything great about it. Just so much fun and a wonderful celebration of Moore and his contributions to comedy/film.

I'm probably gonna watch Black Dynamite again tonight

736452, So...

I believe Eddie Murphy has been playing the same character/voice since The Nutty Professor. Definitely since Shrek. Same voice. Same tone. Like for me I personally can't unhear it. It's part of why I'm treading lightly on the Coming To America sequel. It's also why I didn't care for Murphy's performance all that much. LOVED Wesley! Really glad Murphy brought him on this project.

I enjoyed the film, it was definitely entertaining. I would be interested in a more in depth documentary on Blaxpoitation movement. Loved that they spliced in scenes from the actual movie.

I disagree. I would rather this route than him trying to do Rudy Rays voice or an impression of him.

736458, Snipes was the funniest part of the movie

and that's among a LOT of Funny People.

T.I. continues to turn in oddly hilarious performances in Netflix movies.

736459, That shit was great.

736460, Eddie didn’t even try. He used the same character in Dream Girls/Life
Posted by 81 DUN, Sun Oct-27-19 12:36 PM
Overall the movie was good but my only complaint was Eddie’s rehashed performance.
736461, Fucking fantastic movie. Better get double digit Oscar noms.

736464, I’d pay money to see the outtakes..

Never seen any of the dolemites or really knew about dude *ducks*. Only in the general sense of blaxploitation and old pimp movies (supafly etc). The folk aspect was really interesting.

Eddie and Wesley always been funny as shit. Their back and forth was great.

Epps didn’t really get off like I wanted him to but it wasn’t his shit so I get it (he said leave it to beaver and gunsmoke lol). I know that nigga was cuttin up on set.

Might be a classic.
736466, highly enjoyable

I agree that Wesley Snipes was great and even outshined Eddie Murphy.

This was basically The Disaster Artist, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

736469, Loved it. Totally reminded me of The Disaster Artist

But with much higher stakes. Lots of fun.
736478, Rap'in and Tap'in is my Game! I Love this movie.

Really really enjoying this series. So far it has episodes w/ Academy Award winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter and Michael Jai White.

This Jai White interview is EXCELLENT about to dig into the Carter episode now

If you love this film and the history of Black Cinema give this a listen

736571, It was good - it was NOT great or a classic to me
Posted by handle, Tue Nov-05-19 12:57 PM
First let me say I'm an Eddie Fan.

I also watched 3-4 of the RRM films back in the early 90s.

First off, this movie is too hagiography-ful, Rudy is a SAINT. Never does anyone one wrong, offers to make sandwiches, never gets upset unless he's being attacked, it's like someone with unlimited ambition and absolutely no ego.

I think he was more complex than that, I'd like to have seen it on the screen.
(Note: Maybe he was - I understand jack Benny was absolutely that way - and that's why no one has been able to make a film about him - because it would be boring.)

I also didn't like characters saying "Rudy, you've never taken no for an answer in your life, why take no for an answer now?!?"

It felt too "pat" , too "neat."

The part driving to the premiere where everyone has a newspaper open to a bad review but doesn't read it until instructed to was particularly bad.

I thought the film was fine. I like the cast. the writers wrote ED WOOD for fuck's sake.

Just thought it was kind of a limp bio-pic.
736700, This was very well done...
