A hard-boiled crime noir with a detective that has Tourettes. This is 100% my shit.
735734, saw the trailer through a google survey

Read the book ages ago, wasn't expecting an adaptation (kind of like Inherent Vice), not sure what to expect but I think I don't want to go back to the book until after.
735740, Was the book a period piece?

I remember it mentioned White Castle a lot.

My memory of it is a bit hazy at this point. I feel like most of his New York setting novels back then were more specifically about the place while open ended on the time, though they probably favor a certain period.
735743, Appears they did change the period, from 90s to 50s. Interesting.

Maybe a little disappointing. Maybe I'm tainted by knowledge of Norton's compulsion to rewrite everything he touches.
735739, i like norton so, i'll check it out

735746, trailer makes it look like 5 different movies

could be a symptom of terrible trailer, great movie,...or bad trailer, worse movie...THOUGH Thom Yorke seems attached to it on an original level, so that's not nothing
735828, Awe man. It's getting mixed reviews.

Fuck that's disappointing to read.
736583, I really liked it. Some solid performances, great soundtrack.

Definitely a bit long, Frank's wife and the plotline with Cannavale's character doesn't really need exist, and it was a bit more convoluted than it needed to be, but otherwise very good.

Saw it yesterday and agree. Liked the Chinatown vibe of it. 7/10

Great cast. Dug the music. Even the Thom Yorke song flows nicely and i normally hate modern music in period pieces.

Felt kinda indulgent though. Norton clearly gave alot of himself to this project and it shows. He's pretty much trying to make his version of Chinatown, but this never quite pops.
