735478, DC needs to just quit....
Posted by PG, Mon Aug-12-19 12:22 PM
just watched aquaman this weekend... smdh.. I don't know how marvel manages to pull of the cheese and camp they do but somehow it works for them... DC's cheese and camp is just plain tragic tho... don't know why I even bother.. what was the last half decent dc offerring? I got nothing.
735496, Thank you!!!
Posted by bwood, Tue Aug-13-19 08:21 AM
Aquaman was corny as fuck.

Wonder Woman is the only one I actually liked so far.
735502, and thank you
Posted by PG, Tue Aug-13-19 10:39 AM
cause you manage to do it.. Wonder Woman was a half decent offering.. don't know why it didn't even come to mind.
735500, fuck it, I really liked Aquaman.
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Aug-13-19 10:24 AM
If you’re gonna go cheesy, go ALL THE WAY. Too many of the DC flicks would try to balance cheese with grit and/or self-awareness. Aquaman at least had the stones to commit to that vision.
735504, lol, fair enough, you're more than allowed to.
Posted by PG, Tue Aug-13-19 10:41 AM
I will say some of the visuals were pretty good... I don't know tho DC just can't seem to really come into their own with their stuff though imo..
735522, Ditto, It Was One Of The Few Good Ones

DC is known for either going the "Dark Knight" route with everything and then the cheesy route, but to me Aquaman was pretty decent without trying to be a corny Marvel Deadpool route which I thought Shazam was really corny but it felt more like made for Nickelodeon than a DC movie, even though DC has a lot of characters like this in their universe such as Plastic Man.

They just need to stop trying to make these long movies, it works for Marvel but for DC it's a negative (maybe cause of writing or non-interesting characters with no depth to them).

I heard there might be a Lobo movie coming in 2020/2021, even though he's kind of DC's Wolverine-ish character, I hope they don't try to copy what Marvel movies did.

735831, I don't mind cheesiness; it was just REALLY boring between...
Posted by mrhood75, Sat Aug-31-19 01:50 PM
...the action scenes. And aside from the stuff with Black Manta, the action scenes weren't that interesting. During the "final" battle, all I kept thinking about was "CRAB PEOPLE! CRAB PEOPLE!" a la South Park.

Plus, the suit was really fucking awful.
735508, A standalone Batfleck flick would have banged

He has been/was hands down the best thing about the "current"
DC universe.
735530, smh... i do not agree.

735509, c'mon now, the DC criticism (even if legit) is trite/passe now

We all know for the past 5 years that DC films had bad writrs, direction, etc. Their movies are still obviously making them a profit. The DC 'style' is well known and people know what to expect: Wal-Mart compard to Marvels 'Bareney's. Once in a while they'll have some quality Wonder Woman release but we all know the drill by now. Quit? They're on some Don't Stop-Won't Stop...and thats ok.

735511, Well they did a couple things wrong IMHO
Posted by WarriorPoet415, Tue Aug-13-19 02:08 PM
A. They didn't have a good unifier like Feige. I'm not saying you needed dude on his level, but Tsujihara was a disaster.

B. They could have just followed Marvel's formula and they would have been fine if they could have struck the right tone. They didn't have to try and reinvent the wheel with how they went about introducing their universe. Probably should have just cribbed from their animated stuff.

C. Snyder just wasn't the dude to kick things off. I enjoyed Man of Steel, but they should have had multiple talents behind the camera lined up.

certainly deeper than I've looked at it.
735526, Shazam was kinda fun
Posted by go mack, Wed Aug-14-19 10:23 AM
Aquaman was okay..but not one I will watch again. I actually enjoyed it more than Wonder Woman which I feel was completely overrated. I may try the sequel tho since its 1984, think the WW2 backdrop just didn't do it for me and the villain was shit.

Im looking forward to the Joker movie I think. The new Batman I'll give a chance. They just sucked at tying a universe together and seemed to give up on that now at least.
735528, I've actually been looking forward to seeing this one
Posted by PG, Wed Aug-14-19 11:39 AM
since it was announced... don't know why I haven't yet.. maybe this weekend.

joker might be ok.. character is an endless goldmine
735535, Also forgot Suicide Squad 2
Posted by go mack, Wed Aug-14-19 12:50 PM
while the first one was mostly forgettable, I have a little hope with James Gunn taking over it might be good.
735570, Suicide Squad 2 Would Be Good
Posted by Dj Joey Joe, Thu Aug-15-19 11:57 PM
I'm just curious as to why would Will Smith take up a role knowing that it might end up being a reoccurring role but says he doesn't want to do sequels or play a role twice?

I just rather his ass just stick to not doing superhero movies at all, I was kind of surprised he did three Men In Black movies, then says "I'm done with doing roles more than once" schtick, I wonder who they will get to play Deadshot now?

735575, I think Will is out because of scheduling. That's the official line.
Posted by Monkey Genius, Fri Aug-16-19 08:57 AM
735551, yeah, but nah. Aquaman rocked.
Posted by araQual, Thu Aug-15-19 06:35 AM
it was damn near winking at the camera for the entire movie, but it at least had an earnestness and straight-forwardness to its story and wasn't bogged down with darkness for darkness sake.

it might be the one DCEU flick i would watch again.

V.
735553, honestly, I LOVED Aquaman
Posted by justin_scott, Thu Aug-15-19 07:37 AM
that and Wonder Woman are DC's biggest wins
735574, Well, they basically have already quit in terms of having a

connected universe in any way similar to the MCU. Currently announced films are pretty much silo'd and not connected to each other or leading up to any team-up films like Justice League. Which in theory is a great choice for DC - the individual directors can just focus on trying to make their own films as good as possible without trying to have it all fit together.
735819, list of upcoming DC movies

https://www.etonline.com/upcoming-dc-movies-the-full-list-from-the-batman-to-wonder-woman-1984-and-more-131368

Joker (Oct) - I wanna see, probably see in theater but also probably wait for some critic reviews first. Trailers look good but can be fooled

Birds of Prey (Harley Quin and not typing that title) (Feb 2020) - ehh might be alright, again will wait for the verdict

Wonder Woman 1984 (June 2020) - might be okay again, lots of people loved the first. Kristin Wiig as Cheetah, not so sure about myself..

The Batman with Pattinson (June 2021) - wait and see, still early and don't know much

The Suicide Squad (August 2021) - wait not 2? same name as first one, hate that shit but Gunn writing/directing has me intrigued

Aquaman 2 (Dec 2022) - first was fun, probably won't see in theaters tho

The Trench (TBA) - doesn't sound good to me

Shazam 2 (TBA) - Im probably in, liked the first quite a bit

Black Adam (TBA) - maybe, The Rock starring

New Gods (TBA) - Darkseid movie..

The Flash (TBA) - not really excited since have the tv show already

735820, Lol, I like all the DC movies y'all hate and hate the ones y'all say are good.
Posted by Monkey Genius, Fri Aug-30-19 09:54 AM
Well, 'hate' is a strong word. More like 'bored by.'

As bad as Suicide Squad obviously is, I've rewatched it more times than I ever care to see Wonder Woman again. I've already seen some version of that story 49 hundred million times.

But then Ang Lee's Hulk is in my top 5, so that's who I am.
735992, The Suicide Squad (Gunn, 2021)
Posted by go mack, Sun Sep-15-19 09:31 AM
not ready for its own post yet since over a year away but cast announced.

744940, RE: DC needs to just quit....

Thought would just up this post. So Ezra Miller news seems their time as Flash may be over before it starts. With it scheduled for next year wonder if they reshoot the whole thing at this point or release as is and than recast. What a mess, not sure how Michael Keaton feels coming back as Batman for it now.

Amber Heard cut from Aquaman 2, probably small part tho again and not as difficult.

Joker 2 announced as musical with possibly Lady Gaga as Harley. That sounds incredibly awful. Lol

I'll wait for Reeves The Batman sequel and I was cool with Gunn's Suicide Squad and Peacemaker but overall DC can't get things right it seems.
744948, DC might've turned it around, to be honest.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Jun-20-22 05:13 PM
Like, The Suicide Squad and The Batman are two of the best superhero movies of the last several years, and The Peacemaker is a good hit.

No fucking clue what they do about Miller, but it's pretty clear in the 2021-22 releases so far that they've taken some decent steps to right the ship from where it was even just a couple of years ago.

(I don't have much faith in Black Adam though, lol)
744951, yep

at least DC is letting their directors be sort of, impart their vision

I was so mehhh after the first one, figured Gunn would do better but lost it in COVID shuffle, even if it came out before COVID lol.
744950, was Joker and future jazz hands Joker from DC studio though or..
Posted by rdhull, Mon Jun-20-22 09:17 PM
offset like how Spiderman was Sony and not marvel back then?
