Yo that trailer is better than lots of movies I've seen lately. I mean DAMN!!!
733269, I'm there opening night, but this franchise is insane
Posted by B9, Fri Jan-18-19 01:44 PM
The world they created in the second seems more and more insane with each time I've been sucked into watching it. Where they are going to go from "basically, 30% of the world is assassins" is difficult to imagine short of "John Wick is immortal" or "this is a death dream, aka, Jacob's Ladder"

Dude is an amazing martial artist and I feel like the 90's just was a bad time since those films were on the downslope with Van Damme and Segal burning everyone out. Looks like he's going to be the main dude out to get Wick and I'm all for it.

DIdn't see Common in the trailer, I wonder if they just didn't want to bring him back or if he's just not billed as hight for this one.

734981, y’all sleepin on this masterpiece. Nothin touching this in 2019
Posted by aesop socks, Fri May-17-19 12:37 AM
John wick 2 was a step down imo. They wasn’t Fuckin around for part 3. It was on Raid Redemption level
734982, nothing to talk about, we're going to go see it.

Is John Wick 3 on Raid Redemption level?

If so, I will definitely see this this coming weekend.
734995, No.
Posted by bwood, Fri May-17-19 08:49 PM
It's close but no.
735059, lol... right answer.
Posted by PG, Wed May-22-19 06:23 PM
735058, lol good question
Posted by PG, Wed May-22-19 06:22 PM
734986, Like the first two, this one absolutely OWNS.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri May-17-19 09:49 AM
Probably less thematically rich than the first two, but it's wall to wall action, and the opening action sequence got an absolutely giant cheer in my theater. I'm so fucking glad I didn't see the trailer, as I SCREAMED in the theater at about a dozen of the moments in the trailer.

They also masterfully set up Chapter 4. Which I'm completely here for.
734991, Only thing keeping this from being a masterpiece...
Posted by bwood, Fri May-17-19 12:01 PM
...is the cliffhanger.

I'm ready for this to be wrapped up.

Otherwise, easily the best of the three.

Shit's insane.
734996, dope af!
Posted by x49, Fri May-17-19 10:29 PM
it's awesome that they had the guy from the raid.

halle did her thing.

the main bad guys were awesome.

everyone got their shine.

i kinda wanted to see morpheus get busy but it's all good. maybe in the next one.

i can't believe keanu is 54.

so far my ranking goes 1,3,2.

it's definitely my favorite movie of the year so far
734998, best one yet

735001, I was most impressed
Posted by Numba_33, Sun May-19-19 12:25 PM
at the stunts that involved action while Wick was riding around the NYC streets. Very impressive choreography all around. And Halle Berry did quite well in the scenes she was in. I won't get too specific, but the all stunts involving the animals were very impressive, but I'm assuming there was from CGI work involved with one scene in particular.

The only glaring negative take I have with this is there were some comedic moments towards the end that felt quite out of place, but I won't say too much as I don't want to spoil the flick. Top notch movie all round though.
735019, Don't know how they keep upping this shit
Posted by xangeluvr, Tue May-21-19 05:33 AM
But damn did they take this movie sky high. Amazing stunt work and choreography. Halle was killing it too!

Only thing I didn't like was the casting for the adjudicator.

Posted by Nodima, Tue May-21-19 10:03 PM
It didn't feel as fresh as the other two outside of that first weapon museum fight and some bits here and there. To be honest, I could've completely done without the Halle Berry segments and that is a pain to say since I haven't seen her in a movie since...*Googles*...The Last Stand in 2006! She just felt too famous to be there, and that whole segment felt too superfluous to matter...really, I was kind of out (but very much IN also!) from the moment she was introduced until the moment she left.

Adjudicator was real cool and I hope she serves as a final boss of sorts in 2021! I won't pretend to be good at non-binary stuff but that performance was about as non-binary as it gets.

Seemed like they had a new stunt coordinator for this one. Inventive fight moves/devices and all
735107, Maybe I need to see it again. Good, not great.
Posted by WarriorPoet415, Tue May-28-19 08:59 AM
Honestly, some of the gun battles and fight scenes went on too long.

*spoiler alert*

Like when he's fighting the two disciples of the main assassin, that shit went on forever. how many glass cases did they kick him through in the beginning. But main dude also said "you only die by my knife"

So I had to watch this drawn out ass scene knowing that right afterwards, I gotta watch ANOTHER drawn out ass fight? Shit. At that point I got a little impatient

*spoiler end*

My only other gripe is the plot (i know, I know). This ain't really a deeply plotted franchise, which I get. But it just seemed JW was pretty aimless. Like he's incommunicado and he's just throwing up hail mary's. Lucky there was some ritual he could perform to get him out of trouble but...the elder was the first bit of lore in their world building that just seemed tacked on.

Other than those two gripes, it freakin' delivered action wise, even when it was being ridiculous (a horse escape man?). Maybe a few too many cut away shots of people reloading, but that's just me nitpicking. It could of probably been trimmed a good 10 minutes or so.

Still a top notch action franchise.

*****

Yeah, it gets spoilery from here.

This shit is bonkers. Absolutely relentless. All the key players owned their role to the nth degree.

Note to the video game industry: you want to turn your IP into films, study this series. Because that's what this feels like, in the best possible ways.

Halle, my god. Her and those dogs had better show up in 4. This is how you maximize a limited role.

Angelica Huston? Her too. Same thing.

Everything about this left me exhausted, and wanting more.

This series is one of the best things to hit movies in the last decade.

Dudes got 6 knives sticking out of them still getting up to fight. At some point you'd think one would see him killing all these motherfuckers and just stay down and chill. lol Definitely reminded me of some video game violence, crazy headshots, bodies flying, etc. Enjoyed seeing Daniels get some action in this one too.

‘John Wick’ Creator Says Studio Making Next Sequels Without Him: ‘It Wasn’t My Decision’

Zack Sharf

Tue, March 23, 2021, 10:50 AM

How big has the “John Wick” film franchise become? Apparently too big for creator Derek Kolstad to remain involved. Screenwriter Kolstad created the John Wick character and universe and has solo writing credit on the first two Keanu Reeves-starring action movies, 2014’s “John Wick” and 2017’s “John Wick: Chapter 2.” While Kolstad cracked the story for 2019’s “John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum,” he shared screenwriting credit with Shay Hatten, Chris Collins, and Marc Abrams. Now with the upcoming “John Wick 4” and “John Wick 5,” Kolstad is not involved whatsoever.

“At a certain stage the studio will tell you, your creation is graduated, and you wish it well,” Kolstad recently told Collider. “I’m still close with (director Chad Stahelski), still close with (first film co-director David Leitch), and I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I’m excited to see.”

When asked if it was his decision to step away from the film franchise, Kolstad answered, “No, it wasn’t my decision. When you think of the contractually of these things, the third one I shared the credit with any number of people, (the studio) didn’t have to come back to me, and so they didn’t.”

Kolstad continued, “And so you look at that and you could be hurt, and I would say if it was 20 years ago I would have been, but seeing what the industry is and how things go, I just believe that you bless everything and hope it all the best, and to the players involved who are doing other things elsewhere. And yeah, it’s personal, so I’m never going to talk shit about ‘John Wick.’ I want this thing to survive and thrive.”

“John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum” proved the popularity of Kolstad’s creation when it grossed $56 million on its opening weekend (more than the opening grosses of the previous two films combined) and ended its run with $171 million domestically and $326 million worldwide. The financial success of the third entry resulted in the announcement of two sequels, “John Wick 4” and “John Wick 5.” Both films will be shot back to back, with “John Wick 4” currently on the release calendar for May 27, 2022. “John Wick 5” won’t release until 2023 at the earliest.
740997, well HE may not be givin side-eye, but I am....
Posted by Voodoochilde, Thu Mar-25-21 07:01 AM
Wick 1 was perfection for me, and the subsequent 2 & 3, while not as perfect as 1 was, still were supremely 'holler in the theater' level entertaining, engaging and satisfying.

so yeah, im giving the Studios some side-eye on this one....

Yo, STUDIO SUITS: eff-up this world that Kolstad helped create, and YOU may have a legion of Wick fans wanting revenge.
