Oh shit how did I not hear about this until today? Looks dope as hell! Fans of The Raid should love this based on the trailer. Can't wait till my next day off to check this out.

This shit is nothing but violence and blood!!!!!! I enjoyed every minute of people getting fucked up. It's basically more gruesome than the Raid movies but doesn't have the story of the Raid movies. But who needs storyline when you got dope ass fight scenes like they have? And the chick fight, listen Black Widow wish she could on her best day.
732276, Shit..I might TAKE a day off to watch this...this looks awesome

this movie made me cringe out loud (col - new term!) so much. the crazy violence in The Raid took the action *just* far enough, but this? this joint went clear over the edge, especially toward the end.

anyhow, is it just me or does the main antagonist (the main character from The Raid) look a lot like Kendrick Lamar in that final fight? I'm serious; go look again.
732319, k i'm curious

lol I was going to watch this anyway but now I'm curious.

parts of the story made no sense to me and i didn't really like the flip flopping of the raid guy. i suppose writing and story took the backseat here to the action. that said, i found the pacing and execution of the fight scenes a little off. it just didn't seem that fluid. i also agree that the gore of the action went a little overboard and wasn't really necessary.

so all in all, it was ok. maybe 6.5 out of 10.

but this did nothing for me. I turned it off about an hour in because I had a headache. It was just loud and tedious. Had the fight choreography been tighter I'd probably have held on but nothing was on the the level of the Raid films. If it reminds me of anything it is Kitamura's Versus. If this came out like 15 years ago when I was far more into ultra-violent gonzo asian cinema I'd probably enjoy it more. I think I'm too old for this shit.

I get why people like it but this was another miss for me.
732369, lol I loved Versus (POST JACK)

But then again I saw it well over a decade ago.

I'm not sure if it's aged well. Or for that matter, if I've aged well.

I remember watching as many of Kitamura's films as I could find. They were all pretty much duds except for Azumi. Then he came to America and did a mostly garbage horror movie with Bradley Cooper.

I held out for the promised Versus 2 for a few years. Alas, it never happened.

I don't know, Versus appealed to me in a really fun yet juvenile way. It was just a bunch of guys getting together with a small budget saying "Okay, let's make a movie with kung-fu, swords, guns, zombies, Matrix-esque sci-fi, gore, and some comedy sprinkled in. Lights, Camera, ACTION!"

It's absolutely ridiculous and I loved every minute.

I thought it was me...like, wheres this awesomeness that erybody else sees??

Fights were sloppy as hell to me, and yup, I got halfway in (right when you find out dude from The Raid is still alive) and gave up. I tried to care, but I couldnt

I thought the choreography was on point, but I suspect they were trying to one up The Raid so much, they went a lil' overboard on the action at the expense of other things. part of what made The Raid great (IMO) is that it had memorable characters, and this doesn't really. and it's not nearly as cool as it thinks it is. but I'm not mad at it; I enjoyed it for what it was.

see, its a little hard to explain, but the fight choreography itself i thought was very good. however, its how the beats hit that i didn't like. the rhythm of the fights. there were all these pauses in the action/combos. compared to the raid, for instance, as over the top as the fight sequences are, they had a flow to them and felt more organic.

wow -- you take your fight scenes seriously! nice.

I haven't seen Raid in a bit, but I'll keep this in mind next time I watch.
