731276, I feel like people, for reasons I can't figure, read the show wrong

Granted, I waited to watch the show until 9 of the 10 episodes had aired because that's just a thing that I do with most shows that are new to me anymore, so by the time I'd come to it I'd already seen a ton of headlines about how in love with this show critics had become and how it was the best thing this summer. In effect I was probably ready to wait for the show to "get good" if it wasn't immediately so.

But I almost immediately saw this show as a sort of Arrested Development style comedy set in a modern world where everyone continued to behave like everything carried the stakes of Game of Thrones but learned English by exclusively listening to Kenny Powers interviews. To me, by the end of the first episode I was already so invested in the scale of the dialogue and the tragicomedy of the entire scenario that it was immediately my new favorite comfort food on television.

I never even reached the point that these characters were unlikable, really. I get that they are not good people, but neither were any of the characters in Arrested Development (other than George Michael, and even he wanted to fuck his cousin), and that only made them more interesting to watch.
