2nd half is way better than the first.
727899, Definitely gets into gear when he hits the tambourine bit

The talk about family court? So on point
727966, Same thoughts I had. Second half saved it.

I was getting worried for awhile then the more personal stuff elevated it.

I think some folks want him to wear all leather and have that young bop in his step.

jokes were hittin'

if you are whit tho.. I can see how the first 15 minutes would be unfunny...lol
727900, Better than Bring the Pain IMO

it will never be as iconic, but this was hilarious and smart. Not reliant on gimmicks like repetitive phrases
727906, very funny and smart

I've been a fan of Chris Rock for years, and this was no let down.

It was hilarious, with some pretty great observations. Plus it didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth like Dave Chappelle's comedy specials did.

727908, this is like if Seinfeld did "can you believe how fucked the world is?"

it's all very on-the-nose, which surprised me given who it is.

There's no clever nuance, it's just like "Man guns suck huh?" and "divorce...don't do it!"
727935, solid....I wish he'd kept the slower pace from the Total Blackout version....

I don't know if the special was edited to be more punchy or Chris Rock just delivered his material that tight but there was quite a bit of good material that got cut from when I saw him last February.

It's obvious why some of it got cut (namely the part about cheating with a member of Destiny's Child not named Beyonce) but there was stuff that was pretty good. The religion part came off lighter with the extra material on tour than it did on this special. Here, that material felt a little awkward at spots.

The special was good though. I think I prefer this one to Kill the Messenger.

727987, Was interesting watching him in a more intimate venue

The last few specials he did for HBO were arena shows, IIRC. But I think the small theater gave off a closer vibe and it ultimately helped the material (particularly in the second half.) That's definitely made for a smaller live audience, not some shit you need to shout to the way back.
727990, it was good, i enjoyed it
