for a subject matter (AIDS) that is often presented cinematically in the most melodramatic way possible, the best parts of this movie were when set in a forgettable, fluorescent lecture hall.

that's where the weekly AIDS activist meetings were held, without the spotlight and sensationalism of demonstrations. it's where people just talked -- people with AIDS, some without, but all imperfect and just trying to figure out how to make the next day better than the last.

last third of the film does get a bit melodramatic, and is the worst part by far, but doesn't negate the entirety.

Nahuel Pérez Biscayart was fantastic as the lead; Oscar-worthy performance. sex scenes are actually really well-done and not as superfluous as Blue is the Warmest Color (although the movie connecting everything to sex had me feel some type of way). soundtrack is perfect. overall, not without flaws but definitely recommended.
