I don't know what's more Gavin, this or the elephant from last season
but both are classic

Dinesh as CEO...
721447, Gavin and his animals are comedic gold

That poor bulldog though....
721417, great to see Russ Hanneman back
Posted by RobOne4, Mon Apr-24-17 11:59 AM
loved him cursing up a storm in front of the kids then realizing he was at the wrong school.

This weekend I went through season 3 again and I am glad I did. I totally forgot about Big Head and Erlich buying Pied Piper.

I dont know about this whole new internet thing though. They set up Richard to be this genius. His compression algorithm is fucking amazing. So now he is going to use that to create a new internet. Kind of a big task. There is no way he is going to be able to pull this off. I mean there are plenty of geniuses out there but nobody has built a new internet or tried, as far as I know. So he should fall flat on his face. But my thing is sooner or later these huge companies are going to throw a shit load of money at him to work for them. At what point are they going to get tired of failing and being broke? Dont want this to get stale and go the Entourage route. Except instead of everything going right and always fucking hot chicks. They always fail and they are fucking...except Jared.
722866, Sidebar anyone watch the TJ miller standup

Richard warning all the kids and parents in advance of Russ peeling out was a subtle moment I loved

721578, The end of episode 2 was hilarious
Posted by Sleepy, Mon May-01-17 08:56 AM
I don't know why Gavin Belson is so funny to me, but the end of this episode was hilarious...

Also, I love the way they continue to throw back to earlier minor characters. Especially the server guy.
721585, The focus group gag never gets old
Posted by spenzalii, Mon May-01-17 01:27 PM
Having the one creepy older guy with the kids was the icing on the cake. I flatlined at that point.
721586, "Hella lame"
Posted by SoulHonky, Mon May-01-17 02:32 PM
That was great. The whole set-up of Dinesh's arrogance actually saving him was great as well. Great episode from top to bottom.
721616, It's so many little things
Posted by Sleepy, Tue May-02-17 02:24 PM
This was my favorite episode in a while...

In other things...I was feelin' that Nas record in the credits of the first ep. They are putting a soundtrack together for this season on Mass Appeal records, which means a good splattering of underground hip-hop.
721587, I always love the changes to the opening credits

721928, Can't call most brilliant idiot savant between Big Head and Jin Yiang
Posted by j., Mon May-15-17 08:31 AM
Big Head is always in the right place at the right time
while Jin is in Erlich's head at the right time

them two dudes kill me. Another brilliant ep.
721948, Yo, Jarod killed this episode
Posted by josephmurf2384, Mon May-15-17 12:03 PM
The scene with him and Richard when he starts listing the way he will kill people and the scene at Gavin's house with the cheese.

Dinish having to spend the next year looking at dick pics, lol when he realized what he was going to have to do.
721964, the dick pics ending was brilliant

I'd pay to have that on a shirt
722117, What was the deal with the ending?
Posted by Firecracker, Mon May-22-17 09:25 AM

Gavin signed over the patent, and the pic containing the stuff Richard scribbled down the previous ep? What was the deal with the picture? Why Gilfoyle's dick pic comment?

The significance of that was a lil lost on me
722128, Gavin gave him the patent, but isn't funding Pied Piper anymore
Posted by mrhood75, Mon May-22-17 12:22 PM
He gave Richard the picture because it has the formulations to show how his "reinventing the Internet" would work, because Richard is now the sole owner of it.

Under normal circumstances, this is what Richard would want, because he initially never sought Gavin's money, just the patent. However, since Richard told the press what he's working on (to ostensibly make Gavin feel better about himself), Pied Piper now has all the attention, but none of the money to get it done. Hence, why Gavin is a dick.
722125, this show is like the opposite of Entourage
Posted by RobOne4, Mon May-22-17 11:28 AM
on Entourage you knew things were always going to work out for the crew. Here you know its never going to work out. These guys need to get a W sooner or later.
722136, Yeah they def need to have him have a string of W's
Posted by Heinz, Mon May-22-17 02:09 PM
and show them climb the ladder to success for a season or 2 before they fall again just to get back up and keep going.

I dont mind the rollercoaster of wins and losses they keep having but they are way too close together where possible storylines just seem to end so quickly...you cant keep doing every other episode, there won't be much growth for the characters
722137, Yeah they def need to have them have a string of W's

“The producers of ‘Silicon Valley’ and T.J. Miller have mutually agreed that T.J. will not return for season 5,” HBO said in a statement. “In Erlich Bachman, T.J. has brought to life an unforgettable character, and while his presence on the show will be missed, we appreciate his contribution and look forward to future collaborations.”
722242, Wow. That seems huge

Posted by josephmurf2384, Sun May-28-17 05:44 PM
-fall out from his arrest if he really did something.

-story arc that they can move the rest of the crew out as he is divested in Jin-Yang's company
722244, Well this sucks
Posted by Stoney, Thu May-25-17 03:57 PM
The interactions between him and Jian Yang are consistently my favorites. Wonder why they decided on this.
722315, Agreed
Posted by Heinz, Mon May-29-17 04:01 PM
I wonder what happened

Maybe he fucked someones wife LOL jk
722480, damn this will really shift the dynamic of the show
Posted by gumz, Sun Jun-04-17 12:21 PM
He'll be missed...I wonder if this means they finally get a W and move out
722291, Dinesh dresses like i did when i was 7

722713, That was really dark
Posted by RobOne4, Tue Jun-13-17 02:40 PM
Seemed very out of place
722714, I gotta imagine that's the last of "The guys take a major L" for this season
Posted by mrhood75, Tue Jun-13-17 04:20 PM
I'm guessing that they get some wins in the last two episodes. Or at least finale. And, hopefully, there won't be some final L "twist" at the very end.
722718, I'm thinking theyre setting it up for Erlich to leave
Posted by amplifya7, Wed Jun-14-17 07:56 AM
Maybe he accepts that he's no good at being a tech entrepreneur and finds something else to do?
722738, of course that is what it is
Posted by RobOne4, Wed Jun-14-17 02:16 PM
but everything always has a bit of comedy to it. But this time it was just serious. I was figuring he would take a trip like Gavin or do some crazy Erlich type of shit. Now I am just hoping they dont kill him off and or they dont find him hanging in Jin Yang's room.
722779, i hope he doesn't go out a loser though...that'd be brutal
Posted by gumz, Thu Jun-15-17 02:26 PM
722795, whatever it is, we know TJ Miller *says* its the right end
Posted by Nodima, Thu Jun-15-17 05:23 PM
whatever the context of his exit, his few comments about it suggest he thinks it was the right way and time for this character to move on from the show.

ultimately he's not going to bash the show or it's team...he probably wants to keep it civil and walk away amicably but who da hell knows what really happened. early reports were that he had no idea then it was suddenly a joint decision...etc.

723076, its been a few days lets discuss that let down of a finale
Posted by RobOne4, Wed Jun-28-17 12:35 PM
I mean wtf? Pretty much for the entire season they just ran in place. They are back where they started with a product and working on funding. Yeah they have funding this time. But havent they always until something happens? Richard's turn was so out of character. Sure there was a hint of him turning heel at hooli-con but still it didnt work for me. Also the way they wrote Erlich off the show was lazy as shit. There had to be something going on behind the scenes. That really came out of no where. Really funny season but damn the story is getting old. They need to do something different next season. Getting tired of the same shit every season.
723085, Re: Getting tired of the same shit every season.
Posted by j., Thu Jun-29-17 08:32 AM
the premise is it's supposed to be a spoof and caricature of the real silicon valley
where for every google and facebook a thousand start ups crash and burn, re-inventing themselves until they finally get it right

The show worked for me when the guys managed to be their own worst enemies and hilarity ensued

but you're right, the same routine every season is getting old

now with Erlich gone, no more Jin Yiang? fuck that

I guess the show ends when Pied Piper becomes what they hate (Hooli)
but at the rate they're going it's gonna happen on Season 8

723098, Eh. Maybe Jin-Yang squats at the house while Erlich is away
Posted by spenzalii, Thu Jun-29-17 01:20 PM
That would at least keep the guys there. Though I would like to see them actually win for an extended period.

I will say the row of blow job miming fridges was funny as fuck
723122, for some reason I didn't mind the L this time
Posted by gumz, Sun Jul-02-17 05:58 AM
Cause it felt like something that could actually happening to a young company in their position. They overcommitted to their first customer, tried a crazy idea to pull it off but it blew up in their faces. Seemed legit within that world as opposed to something random happening to screw them over like it usually does. I liked the way it ended too. I guess the thing I'm least excited about is that Gavin will be back and nothing will have changed on that front.

I do feel bad for how it ends for Ehlich but on it's own (not knowing that's his last scene) it's a funny way to get rid of him. They need to elude to him getting out of there somehow down the road though.

723126, I don't think Miller ever really disputed that.
Posted by Frank Longo, Sun Jul-02-17 01:23 PM
He said in that one lengthy interview that he's been incredibly busy shooting a number of feature films, doing press junkets, etc. They talked about reducing his role, and he said "what's the point?" essentially.

Maybe there was a little tension because that's just a tough scenario to manage-- and certainly Miller seemed to resent how Alec Berg treated him during this time-- but if Miller's heart is in doing all these feature things, and the show doesn't want to work its way around his schedule, then it's really for the best all around, probably.

Here's the Miller interview that I'm gleaning this info from:

HR: How did you manage to leave the show mid-run? Didn't you have a contract that would keep you on the series?

Miller: They came to me and said, "Look, we're not going to pick up your contingency because we want to offer you doing five episodes out of the 10, or three episodes." And then I said, "Oh perfect, I had been wanting to ask if you guys would be open to me leaving the show." And then they suddenly said, "Wait, no, what? You can do whatever. What? What do you mean?" And that was so good of them. They said, "We just wanted you to have more time to do all of the things you're doing." And I said, "Well, the best way for me to be involved in the show is by no longer being on it." I swear to God, that's why the internet broke. Everybody was like, "What the f— are you talking about? You're on this successful show. Don't you want three more years of solid acting work and don't you want to be a famous television actor?" And I was like, "No, not really." I'd like to parasail into the Cannes Film Festival for The Emoji Movie because that's the next new funny thing that will make people laugh.

HR: Why were the producers going to reduce your role in the first place?

Miller: Because they had to move the production schedule around. That's how heavy-duty my schedule is. Even the most successful comedy next to Veep on HBO was like this thing that I had to — I'm doing stand-up and I come back and I didn't sleep at all. I was incredibly busy. People joke about it but I'm the hardest-working man in show business, maybe. So they were like, "Let's make this easier for both of us." And I was like, "I think this is an amazing opportunity."
723127, i've been on TJ side, because this show going in circles.
Posted by Basaglia, Sun Jul-02-17 02:38 PM

723133, makes sense. i didn't read that interview yet.
Posted by araQual, Sun Jul-02-17 09:06 PM
internets made it seem like it was this off-camera tension or incident that got him "fired" or something, but a busy-ass sched would do it. still sucks he's gotta bounce tho.

V.
723172, at first it definitely seemed like he was forced out
Posted by RobOne4, Wed Jul-05-17 12:24 PM
he never talked or hinted about why he was done. Then the interview came out that Frank posted above. I saw him on a radio show saying the same thing. If that was the case it makes sense. But why did his write off seem so lazy? Like that was the best they could come up with? I kind of was expecting him to go on a trip like Gavin. It would definitely leave it open for him to comeback but also tell why he left. I felt that would have been lazy. But oh he got too high and Gavin left him? Did not like it at all.
723177, I believe him about how it happened and the writing
Posted by Rjcc, Wed Jul-05-17 03:37 PM
that he thought that would be funnier.

and that they asked him to be on the show a little less and he was like....how about a lot less as in not at all.
