Saw this as part of a grief doubleheader with Manchester by the Sea today, lol. It's actually a really nice companion piece, as that one is subtle and naturalistic, whereas this goes melodramatic and fantastical. It's subtle as a sledgehammer, but incredibly effective. Gorgeously shot, brilliant effects, terrific performances (especially by the kid, my god what a year for child actors), and very moving. Bring Kleenex. Terrific animated interludes too-- very inventive. Check this one out.

Was not the only adult in the room crying for the last hour or so.

I don't like being told how to feel, so in that regard I like MANCHESTER BY THE SEA much more than this.

Otherwise well shot and acted. That's as far as the praise goes.
