716169, Marvel's Cloak and Dagger

So why wasn't The Runaways on Freeform? Seems like a better fit than Hulu.

Freeform Greenlights Marvel Romance Superhero Series ‘Cloak and Dagger’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Freeform is venturing into the Marvel universe.

The younger-skewing Disney-owned network has greenlit “Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger” with a straight-to-series order, Variety has exclusively learned.

Described as a superhero love story, “Cloak and Dagger” is based on the titular comic book duo (also known as Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson) who have appeared in Marvel Comics classics, including “Spiderman” and “X-Men” stories.

The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love — Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.

No writer has been attached to the series, but the search is currently under way. Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios will co-produce.

The characters’ story is targeted toward young adults, making “Cloak and Dagger” a seamless fit for Freeform (previously ABC Family) whose target audience is “Becomers,” the 14-34 demo.

Marking the network’s first-ever Marvel series, Freeform is following in the footsteps of big sister net ABC, which has a slew of Marvel properties on its slate including “Agents of SHIELD” and “Agent Carter,” plus Mockingbird spinoff “Marvel’s Most Wanted” and a top-secret Marvel project from John Ridley in development. Getting Freeform into the Marvel game is a smart move for Disney-ABC, as the cable network is held to lower ratings standards than a big broadcast network. (ABC has struggled with ratings for “Agent Carter,” which remains on the bubble in the wake of critical praise.)

Superhero fare is a new genre for Freeform, which recently pushed into fantasy fare with “Shadowhunters.” That drama was just renewed for a second season, and “Cloak and Dagger” will pair nicely with the saga series, broadening the net’s programming.

Marvel Television is repped by CAA.
716174, Meh. I was hoping to see them as allies in Spiderman.

718856, ‘Runaways’ & ‘Cloak & Dagger’ Production Dates Revealed
Posted by bwood, Sat Jan-07-17 12:12 PM
http://heroichollywood.com/runaways-cloak-dagger-production/

After incredibly long periods of silence for both Runaways and Cloak and Dagger, information seems to be finally arriving. Both series were announced last year but little information has been revealed on either front. We do know however, the former will be released on Hulu, while the latter on Freeform.

We now know the production titles and dates for both series. Runaways, will go under the title of Rugrats and begin filming in LA in February. Cloak and Dagger, will go under the name Shadows and begin filming in New Orleans on February 15th. Considering the incredibly close production start dates, we can likely expect casting and other information in the weeks to come. Also with filming beginning in February, we would likely see both series either late 2017-mid 2018.

We already know a bit more about Cloak and Dagger, as Disney had previously revealed a synopsis and logo for the series (which can be seen below); but next to nothing is known about the Runaways series.

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger follows Tandy Bowen and Tyronne Johnson, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened by and awakened to newly acquired super powers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn that they are better together than apart–but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.
718877, Do we have to call the other one "Dabney Coleman's Cloak and Dagger"??

Because that's the O.G.

719315, Rumor: Noah Gray-Cabey and Debby Ryan Cast as Cloak and Dagger

Rumor: Noah Gray-Cabey and Debby Ryan Cast as Cloak and Dagger

We at the MCU Exchange try to do our best to follow best practices in social media and journalism so when we pass on a rumor, you can trust that we have done a great deal of work and thinking behind the scenes before bringing it to you. With that said, we have done our thinking and have chosen to present the following to you as a rumor and, at this point, nothing more.

We were contacted by a new source who indicated to us that Marvel has cast the leads for the upcoming Cloak and Dagger series to be aired on Freeform. According to this source Noah Gray-Cabey (Heroes, Code Black) and Debby Ryan (Jessie, Radio Rebel) have been cast as Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen, respectively.

After receiving the information, we reached out to other sources for confirmation and did some digging around on our own. In digging we found some interesting social media activity that could tie the two actors to the show. Cabey, who recently finished filming the second season of Code Black, was also recently followed on Twitter by Joe Pokaski, the showrunner for Cloak and Dagger. While that piece of evidence is tenuous by itself, given our information and the fact that the vast majority of the people Pokaski follows on Twitter are either people he has worked with or people associated with Marvel, it certainly seems less than coincidental.

In searching through Ryan’s Twitter, we found that she follows the official Marvel Cloak and Dagger Twitter page. Ryan doesn’t follow many people, and even fewer shows. Of those, Cloak and Dagger is definitely the outlier and adds another breadcrumb to our trail.

Without confirmation from another source, we didn’t feel comfortable running that as anything but a rumor, but we won’t be surprised to find out it’s accurate. Cabey and Ryan are the right ages (21 and 23) to pull of runaway teens, and both have enough cachet and connections to land the lead roles. Cabey carries some serious nerd cred for his role as Micah Sanders on Heroes and Ryan is a Disney kid who was the star of a Disney Channel sitcom for 5 years. Production on Cloak and Dagger is scheduled to begin February 14th in New Orleans, so it won’t be long before we get feedback on our rumor.

In related news, another source has reached out to us with the news that casting for Runaways, Marvel’s first series for the streaming service Hulu, is in its final stages. Our source tells us that actors have been called back and are preparing to screen test for the lead roles in the series. The series is also expected to begin filming in February, so we are fairly confident that this is an accurate report. We are working on this and hope to bring you further information soon.
719419, Olivia Holt & Aubrey Joseph Land Title Roles In Series For Freeform

‘Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger’: Olivia Holt & Aubrey Joseph Land Title Roles In Series For Freeform
by Nellie Andreeva
January 30, 2017 12:11pm

EXCLUSIVE: Marvel and Freeform have found their Cloak and Dagger for the new straight-to-series coming-of-age live-action drama based on the Marvel characters. Former Disney Channel star Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph (The Night Of) have landed the leads in the new Freeform drama series Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger.

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger follows the interracial romance between Tandy Bowen (Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Joseph), who come from starkly different backgrounds, each growing up with a secret they never dared share with another soul. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart — but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.

“The characters of Tandy and Tyrone have always stood out to me ever since I first met them in the pages of Marvel comics when I was a boy,” said Cloak & Dagger executive producer/showrunner Joe Pokaski. “When Olivia and Aubrey read for the roles, these characters leapt off the page. We’re so excited to see what these talented young actors bring to the Marvel Universe.”

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, which had been in the works at Freeform’s predecessor ABC Family for about five years, is a co-production of Marvel Studios and ABC Signature Studios. It joins two Marvel series for ABC: series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the upcoming The Inhumans.

“Marvel is delighted to have found our “Cloak & Dagger,” said Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television and Executive Producer. “Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph encompass the true essence of the characters and we are excited for the audience to see them in these roles.”

Here is more info on the two characters:

Tandy (Oliva Holt – “Dagger”) Once a privileged little girl, Tandy Bowen watched as her family was destroyed by a disastrous storm that uprooted her life. Now in her late teens, an unexpected encounter with a boy named Tyrone sparks a life changing event.

Tyrone (Aubrey Joesph – “Cloak”) Young Tyrone Johnson wanted nothing more than to prove he was fearless. But when everything he held close was taken away, life taught Tyrone to be afraid. Now older and more sheltered, Tyrone closes himself off. But when he meets a girl named Tandy his life changes Forever.

The scene above doesn't really sell it, but I'm still hoping for Runaways level quality at least.

Very relieved this is good.

Weird how the young adult shows (this and Runaways on Hulu) are killing it.

729968, Anyone watch this last night?

I'm going to peep it in Hulu tonight.

I'm super excited. Heard nothing but great things.
729972, Will check this week

Downloaded amd ready to watch when I got a break. Have heard nothing about it so hope to be pleasantly surprised.
729982, it was pretty good
Posted by jrocc, Sat Jun-09-18 04:58 PM
about as good as Runaways which is a compliment. of course it's early, but i like where they're going so far. i only really know Cloak & Dagger as auxiliary characters so i'm going into this about as blind as possible.
729983, They got some good stories
Posted by bwood, Sat Jun-09-18 06:12 PM
Enough to do a nice five season run.
729996, It's pretty good.

New Orleans is a good backdrop for a show like this. I'm ready to see more of it.
729998, first two eps really good...

much better than I expected.
730321, Y'all think they're gonna get their costumes?
Posted by bwood, Fri Jun-29-18 11:14 AM
I like the slow burn of the show so far.
730324, Cloak seems like he definitely will
Posted by jrocc, Fri Jun-29-18 04:16 PM
I like how they introduced his cloak as being formerly his brothers that he never got to finish with that marching band group. that was a pretty decent way to explain him getting it eventually. i'm not sure if they're going to put her in any kind of costume like in the comics. probably will end up being something more practical. the TV shows are a bit more reluctant to go with the costumes than the movies. Jeph Loeb hinted that Danny will get some form of his costume in his upcoming season and this will be the fourth series we've seen him in.
730326, Welp, you just said it.
Posted by bwood, Fri Jun-29-18 04:55 PM
Jeph Loeb.

Marvel TV is a afraid to go full comic book. Like can we get at least 15 minutes of radar sense in Daredevil?
730327, Episode 4, for Tyrone.
Posted by JFrost1117, Fri Jun-29-18 05:27 PM
I'd be cool with them not going the comic book route for Olivia Holt, cuz I don't think she can fill it out. Sorry to be sexist.
730337, This shit is pretty phenomenal.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Sat Jun-30-18 11:18 PM
One of the best Marvel tv shows. Up there with Daredevil. And slightly better than Luke Cage, because the acting is soooooo much better.
730685, Renewed for Season 2.

Confirmed last night at Comic-Con. It will be back Spring 2019 instead of Summer.
730697, They just confirmed that C&D takes place in same universe as

The various storylines are all hitting the right notes and I am invested in every bit of it. The humor of Luke Cage isn't here, but this doesn't need it. Just brilliant storytelling (and performances).
730853, Really was.
Posted by JFrost1117, Sun Jul-29-18 06:36 PM
Tandy on her villain shit. Lil voodoo girl wasn't fuckin with it though.

A whole bar full of cops just sitting around watching dude stomp a woman out.
730855, That shit fucked me up
Posted by bwood, Mon Jul-30-18 12:33 AM
>A whole bar full of cops just sitting around watching dude
>stomp a woman out.

I was thinking that there was not one good cop in the place to help her out?!

But then again from my various encounters with police and what's happening nationwide, I'm not surprised in the slightest.
730981, Crazy lil' table-turn, for the ending.
Posted by JFrost1117, Mon Aug-06-18 01:53 AM
Wack ass cop done made this boy a homeless fugitive.

I don't know their rogue's gallery. I assume the zombie cop is someone they'll have to take down together in season 2. And, she killed the fuckin bee.

His lil' voodoo girl is fine as shit (age: 25)
730987, Now it's like the comics.
Posted by bwood, Mon Aug-06-18 10:55 AM
Tandy was the rich girl and Tyrone was the homeless runaway.

I can't believe they let Tyrone fully become Cloak. That was so dope.

I really liked that Brigid O'Reilly gets to be Mayhem next season even if it's tragic. As soon as she was introduced, I wondered if and how she would become Mayhem. And they did in the most tragic way possible.

What I hope they don't do until Season 3 is have Misty show up. They're talking about having her show up soon.

Posted by xangeluvr, Mon Aug-06-18 03:28 PM
Well done series. My only nitpick were my annoyance with Tandy's attitude flip flopping back and forth so much, and I also found the ending joining of powers anticlimactic.
735991, The second season is EXCELLENT!!!
Posted by bwood, Sun Sep-15-19 08:11 AM
Just finished watching it on Hulu, wow everyone really stepped up this season.

This show continues to be tragic. And we finally got the comics costumes!

The sex trafficking arc was handled very well as could realistically be for a superhero show.

The finale leaves them in a interesting place. Hope they get a third season.
736001, Loved the first season. Never bothered with the second for some reason.

This may have to do with Kevin taking over everything tho.
