Confirmed: Paul Thomas Anderson And Daniel Day Lewis Are Making Another Movie Together
And it comes out NEXT YEAR.

By Scott Wampler Sep. 08, 2016

Welp, the rumors were true: Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day Lewis, are reuniting for another film, it takes place in the world of 1950's fashion, and it'll be out sometime next year thanks to the good folks at Universal and Focus Features.

Here's what Deadline's saying about the deal:

Universal and Focus Features won a worldwide rights auction for an untitled film that Paul Thomas Anderson wrote and will direct, re-teaming him with There Will Be Blood star Daniel Day Lewis. Focus won the deal after a ferocious bidding battle with Fox Searchlight.

As fans of Paul Thomas Anderson, Daniel Day Lewis, and especially as fans of There Will Be Blood, we could not be more excited to hear this. Admittedly, we don't know much about the film itself beyond the general setting and the time period, but honestly: that's all secondary to the fact that these two are reuniting.

When this rumor first started going around back in June, Vulture did a little digging, and came up with what sounds like a pretty good guess as to which real-life fashion designer Day Lewis' character might be based on (a tactic Anderson's used in the past).

...we suspect that if Anderson is indeed making a movie inspired by a New York fashion designer in the 1950s, he’d be most drawn to Charles James, who created some of the most audacious, expensive gowns in the world and even dressed other titans of couture like Coco Chanel. His was a life full of terrific drama, and like several other Anderson protagonists, James was a mercurial mastermind, a prodigy around whom an interesting adopted family formed.

Could be they're way off, but it's a better guess than I would've come up with. Guess we'll have to wait and see where this thing goes.

And again: the good news is, we won't have to wait long. PT Anderson and DD Lewis' next collaboration arrives in 2017. Get excited.
