714762, The Cinematic Moratorium
Posted by SoulHonky, Wed Aug-10-16 01:05 PM
What do we need to stop seeing in films?

For instance:

- Star Trek has to stop blowing up the Enterprise.
- X-Men has to stop blowing up bridges
- Big lights firing into the sky has been done to death.
- The "He's right behind me, isn't he?" and "I'm right here!" jokes

What are some other things you'd like to give a time out?
714763, "I'm okay" and Wilhelm scream

#1: First, get rid of the Wilhelm scream - it's so overused now it's not funny at all.

#2: If someone is thrown out a window and into a wood chipper don't then have them do an off-screen voice over says "I'm okay." Just realize they are not okay - and quite possibly dead.
714764, Also, that one red-tailed hawk cry.

It's EVERYWHERE! Usually it's thrown in for comedy but it was in a crucial scene of "The Path" and took me out of the moment.
714765, replace it with the Goofy yell

It fucks me up because I use it as my text ringtone for my close friends, so any time I hear it I instinctively reach for my phone
714784, no more cars not reacting to hwy runs throughs etc
Posted by rdhull, Wed Aug-10-16 09:43 PM
Ex. a person will run across a hwy and all cars keep going at same speed, straight, as if nobody ran almost in front of them

same with regular street intersection wrong way passings etc

714792, The Inception trailer

- dramatic strings
- BRAAAM sound
- crescendo into silence where the film's thesis one-liner is delivered
714796, BRAAAM sound
Posted by handle, Thu Aug-11-16 11:21 AM
Before that (and still) there's the waah-silence-waah-silence-waahwaah-shortersilence-waahwaah-sorter-silence-dopler-efect-waaawaah sound that cam to prevalence during the pod race on Phantom Menace.

I think the BRAAAM sound become prevalent with War of The Worlds?

But the Inception trailer seems to have introduced the use of geometrically folded cityscapes - I just saw one in Star Trek Beyond - hard to believe their city planners would watch Inception and then design a star base after it.

714793, You ok? after a brutal sadistic beatdown

I wish everyone would answer just like Marcellus Wallace:

Na man, I'm pretty fuckin far from OK

714880, no more 'sudden' appearances of helicopter etc sans presound
Posted by rdhull, Sun Aug-14-16 08:32 PM
All vehicles or aircraft should be heard from a distance and louder as it is close

No more mac truck startlingly appearaning with horn blowing just out of nowhere, same with helicopters
714898, Star Wars: flying little ship inside big ship to blow it up.

Like they've done that in literally half of the movies in the franchise. Shit gets old.

714899, I want them to do it in the next film....
Posted by CaptNish, Mon Aug-15-16 12:48 PM
....and have it fail.

I was really hoping it was gonna fail in TFA. I thought it would'e been a brilliant spin and would've made the First Order a legit threat. Now they just seem like a joke that the good guys made look like bitches.
714901, Right?

you know, the outsider who within days/weeks or sometimes months not only learns the customs and ways of a culture and people, but becomes one of the most popular members of the community and best at whatever they do in short time.
