703099, Thor: Ragnarok (Taika Waititi!, 2017)

Anyone who saw What We Do In The Shadows should be excited, even if a pinch puzzled by this news. Still, his quippy style should go perfectly with what Marvel generally tries to do, and WWDITS did look great for a movie on basically no budget.
703100, I just hope it's not trash like The Dark World was.
Posted by bwood, Fri Oct-02-15 04:32 PM
What We Do in the Shadows was great tho.
703102, Disagreed on The Dark World.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Oct-02-15 04:37 PM
Saw it again not too long ago. It's more disposable than many of the other Marvel flicks, but still plenty enjoyable, even if only for the awesome finale.
703157, i liked Dark World
Posted by jrocc, Mon Oct-05-15 10:18 AM
I would have liked to have seen more of the other realms that they had apparently been fighting on (I think they just showed that one), otherwise, I thought it was decent.
703159, Agreed. I liked Dark World

I've seen a handful of OKPS give her a pass because BOOBS!!! but she really drags this one down IMO. I really enjoyed the movie when she wasn't there but I absolutely hated every second she was on screen.

Cut her screen time down by about 75% and it would improve the movie a great deal if you ask me.
703160, wasn't trash at all imo.

seeing as how Thor dies there along with all the rest of the Asgardian gods, and almost the entire universe is destroyed.

"RE: Thor: Ragnarok (Taika Waititi!, 2017)"

so as BIG fan of 'What We Do In The Shadws',
my initial reaction to Waititi getting assigned to Thor was: 'Yeah!! Awesome!!'

...then there was a brief realization moment of: ...'wait, what?'....

Then, after a bit a more thought it went to....'yeah. Yeah, that kinda makes really good sense in several ways. So....Yeah! Sweeet!!!"

so yup, im in on this one!

This is really cool. Hopefully Marvel can fully get the rights back so in the next Hulk solo film, they can explore Grey Hulk *lights blunt of OG Kush. Inhales and thinks about the wonderful possibilities on exhale*

http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2015/10/12/report-hulk-will-appear-in-thor-ragnarok

We've already established that the Thor franchise is sort of Marvel's redheaded stepchild. So how do they fix that with the third film? For one, they brought in Taika Waititi to direct it, a bold and exciting choice. For another, they've decided to give Thor: Ragnarok the central plot position that Captain America: The Winter Soldier had - the MCU will feel the implications of this movie. And third, if JoBlo is right, they're bringing in the big guns. The big green guns. The Hulk.

According to the site Hulk will co-star in Thor: Ragnarok, and he will show up on a planet that is neither Earth or Asgard. As you recall from the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Hulk was in a cloaked Quinjet going who knows where, but cruising very high in the sky. Could Hulk have somehow found his way off the planet?

Bringing in Hulk makes all the sense in the world. He's a character who is popular but who cannot have his own film, thanks to a deal with Universal. Putting him in Thor: Ragnarok ties that film deeper into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and raises audience interest in a big way. Also, I think Hulk works best on screen as a supporting player, at least until such time as Marvel gets the cojones to do a Mr. Fixit type story with him - ie, something other than 'They're chasing me and I change into a monster!,' which has been done enough.

Could this be true? Sure! I buy it. I'm getting very curious about Ragnarok, and I hope that it lives up to its status as the lynchpin of Phase Three.
703403, Hulk contractually can't have a solo film?
Posted by Af-1, Mon Oct-12-15 05:12 PM

Posted by Cold Truth, Mon Oct-12-15 11:15 PM

I mean, Thor and Dark World aren't terrible by any means, but adding Hulk can only help make this that much more exciting, akin to The Winter Soldier.
703536, Rumor confirmed!!! Mark to co-star. The first trailer is gonna be insane!!!

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/markcassidycbm/news/?a=125967

Well, you'll be pleased to hear that JoBlo rumor was true: Mark Ruffalo will return as Bruce Banner and his slightly angrier alter ego in Thor: Ragnarok, which we recently found out would be directed by Taika Waititi (Eagle Vs Shark, What We Do In The Shadows).

Deadline just broke (well, confirmed) the news, though they don't mention any specific details or reveal how the Hulk will factor into the story - but Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth seem like they have good chemistry, and their characters' interactions have provided some memorable moments in the Avengers movies so this should work out well.

Also starring Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Ray Stevenson, Anthony Hopkins, Thor: Ragnarok is currently being scripted by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle and is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 3, 2017.
703540, Thor, Loki, AND Hulk? Sheeit, Marvel should just print their own currency.
Posted by phenompyrus, Fri Oct-16-15 09:57 AM
This might make Thor what Iron Man did to IM and what Winter Soldier did to Cap.

Posted by Cold Truth, Fri Oct-16-15 12:13 PM
I mean, I'll take Hulk and Thor all day. I like that combo but Bruce and Tony had the potential for a sci fi dramatic action buddy bromance comedy for the ages.

And it could introduce a new female superhero.

By Devin Faraci

You can tell from the title that shit hits the fan in Thor: Raganrok, but just how serious is the movie? It's so serious, so dark, that Marvel decided to hire a comedy director to bring a touch of lightness to the proceedings. Yes, Taika Waititi was hired to balance out the grimness of the script and bring it tonally a little closer to what Marvel fans have come to expect.

That's what sources deep inside Disney are whispering to me, anyway. Waititi may yet be joined by another writer to help brighten the corners of Ragnarok while maintaining writer Christopher Yost's apocalyptic vibe. One way that may happen is to up the humor between Thor and Hulk, who I have been led to believe will be not only appearing in the movie but will be playing a major role. The two heroes will be taking a cosmic road trip together, Hope and Crosby style.

Along the way they're going to meet Valkyries, as you might expect from a story about the Norse end of the world, but my source tells me that besides the Valkyries (generic) the film might launch Marvel superheroine Valkyrie into the Cinematic Universe. First introduced in the pages of The Avengers, Valkryie, aka Brunnhilde, was a longtime member of The Defenders, hung out with Doctor Strange and had Norse goddess The Enchantress as her enemy. In fact it was an Enchantress story that introduced Valkyrie in the comics - could this mean we'll see The Enchantress finally make it to the screen? I'm not entirely clear on how Valkyrie is being used - it could be in the group of Norse mythological beings who bring the gods to Valhalla after they die or it could be as the standalone superheroine. This part is a little muddled, and I'm trying to get further clarity from other sources - it's hard out there because all of my Marvel sources have clammed up after the regime change. All I know for sure is that Marvel thinks they're going to cast some great women in this movie.

Keep Valkyrie in mind as you hear rumors about women meeting with Marvel. If the superheroine is joining the MCU (and you have to think it's a good idea), the studio will be meeting with many powerful women who could also play Captain Marvel. It's going to be an interesting rumor season leading up to Thor: Ragnarok.

I don't know about 'darkest' script when its a bunch of gods fighting elsewhere...the stakes are kinda low when demi-gods are in danger, lol

Id love for it to be shades of World War Hulk, but the've done zero character development for that to be done.

Cate Blanchett In Talks for Marvel’s ‘Thor: Ragnarok’
DECEMBER 10, 2015 | 03:53PM PT
Justin Kroll

Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett may soon be joining the Marvel universe.

Sources tell Variety Blanchett is in talks to play one of the new female leads in Marvel’s “Thor: Ragnarok.” Marvel had no comment.

Blanchett, having just received SAG and Golden Globe nominations for “Carol,” would be making her first major comic book role in “Ragnarok.”

Taika Waiti in on board to direct the third “Thor” film with Chris Hemsworth returning to play the Norse God. Stephany Folsom recently polished the script.

Blanchett’s character in the superhero sequel isn’t known. “Ragnarok,” produced by Kevin Feige, will also feature Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk and the villainous Tom Hiddleston who plays Loki in “The Avengers” universe.

“Thor: Ragnarok” hits theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.

Blanchett is no stranger to the fanboy universe, having appeared in multiple “Lord of the Rings” and “Hobbit” films for Peter Jackson.

She recently starred in 1950s lesbian drama “Carol,” which led all Golden Globe nominees on Thursday, scoring five nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Blanchett.

In addition to “Carol,” the Australian star also appeared in “Truth” and Disney’s “Cinderella” remake earlier this year.

Presumably this next movie takes place primarily outside of Earth. I'm not sure what they could give Jane to do-- she probably sees her character becoming more damsel-in-distress-y, and she knows that's not really useful for this franchise or for Marvel in general.

Either she wants out, or Marvel knows that having a more active love interest for Thor is just a better idea from a storytelling perspective. It may be a combination of both.

http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2016/05/20/thor-ragnarok-adds-jeff-goldblum-karl-urban-to-cast

Man, Marvel Phase Three is looking incredible. We loved Captain America: Civil War. Doctor Strange is looking truly promising. Black Panther is shaping up incredibly. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 has Kurt Russell in it. And now Thor: Ragnarok. Holy crap, the latest casting.

The Thor movies have always been the weakest link in the MCU. Even if you like them you kind have to admit that. But now, with the third film, it looks like the Thor franchise is finally coming into its own. Directed by Taika Waititi, he of What We Do In The Shadows and the upcoming Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Thor: Ragnarok will team Thor with Hulk for a cosmic adventure. Which we already knew! So what's new?

Jeff Goldblum has joined the cast, and he'll be playing The Grandmaster, one of the Elders of the Universe. We've already had an Elder in the movies - Benicio del Toro as The Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy - and it's exciting to get another. But what's even more exciting is that The Grandmaster usually looks like this:

And he's one of those great cosmic eternal beings, driven by one thing and one thing only - playing games. He's pitted the Marvel superheroes against each other many times in the past, and I imagine he'll be doing something similar here. He also has been a wielder of an Infinity Gem, so I'm betting he has one in this movie.

What role could The Grandmaster have in this movie? Perhaps he's running an intergalactic arena where The Hulk fights, similar to Planet Hulk...

Also joining the cast is Karl Urban as Skurge, more commonly known as The Executioner. He's usually paired up with the Enchantress, but she doesn't seem to be in this movie. Hela is, however (that's now confirmed by Marvel, and Cate Blanchett is playing her), so maybe Skurge will be her muscle.

The Marvel press release announcing this casting also, as I mentioned, confirmed Blanchett as Hela (which we speculated about months ago) and confirms an earlier scoop of mine: not only is Valkyrie in this movie, she's being played by Creed's Tessa Thompson. I love that Marvel is boldly race swapping the character; it fits perfectly in their multicultural version of Asgard.

The image at the top of this article is concept art released by Marvel. Check out Hela's awesome fucking hat! And I love the way she stands defiantly against the assembled hordes of Asgard.

Look, the last two Thors were disappointing but it seems like Marvel finally got their shit together. All of this news is so good.

We’ve Finally Got An Official Plot Synopsis For THOR: RAGNAROK
And a behind-the-scenes photo!

By Scott Wampler Jan. 05, 2017

There are few 2017 films we're looking forward to as much as Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok.

Everything we've heard and seen about this movie seems right up our alley, and with Waititi at the helm (following the one-two punch of What We Do In The Shadows and last year's Hunt For The Wilderpeople), there's every reason to believe Thor's third at-bat is going to be something special.

There's been some speculation as to what Thor: Ragnarok will actually be about - would it be a spin on Planet Hulk? A road trip comedy? Some glorious mixture of the two? - but today we can put some of that speculation to bed, as we now have an official plot synopsis for Waititi's film:

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok — the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization — at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger — the Incredible Hulk!

Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi and returns Chris Hemsworth starring as Thor and Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki. They are joined by Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson and Karl Urban, with Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.

But, wait: there's more! In addition to the synopsis above, Marvel's also revealed a new behind-the-scenes photo from the film. Let's take a gander at that now:

Gentle reminder: this year alone, Marvel's dropping Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 on us. Which one are you guys most excited about? I know Guardians 2 is the obvious answer here, but honestly ... I think Thor: Ragnarok's in the lead for me right now. Thoughts?

Oh, and PS: I'm using this as an opportunity to re-run the short below, which never gets old.

718854, All I know is they're about to hit a grand slam

Posted by SoulHonky, Tue Apr-11-17 10:46 PM
They can only have so many aliens attack Earth stories so why not have Thor battling on other planets. I hope they don't go too far in the GotG comedy angle but good to use Hemsworth's talents.

I'm fine with GotG being more sci-fi, Thor and maybe Dr. Strange being a sci-fi/fantasy mix. Leave the earthbound stories with the rest of the crew.

He's so damn funny. I'm glad to see that being spun off

721123, 'Thor: Ragnarok' Trailer Is Marvel and Disney's Most Watched Ever in 24 Hours (Exclusive)

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/thor-ragnarok-trailer-is-marvel-disneys-watched-ever-24-hours-992978

People want their "Ragnarok"-n-roll.

Marvel’s promise of a Thor vs. Hulk battle seems to have re-energized the Thor movie franchise.

The trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, which was unleashed Monday by Disney, the parent company of Marvel, has garnered more than 136 million views in only 24 hours.

It becomes the not only the most viewed Marvel trailer ever, but also the studio’s most viewed trailer ever across all its brands, which includes Disney’s live-action and animation divisions, Pixar, Star Wars, as well as Marvel.

The Beauty and the Beast trailer was the previous 24 hour record-holder for Disney with 127.6 million views. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was viewed 112 times in that time frame. Captain America: Civil War held the previous Marvel record with 94 million views.

The trailer was met with tremendous enthusiasm, with it channeling a Guardians of the Galaxy vibe with both music and sci-fi fantasy worlds as it set up a scenario where Thor, played a returning Chris Hemsworth, is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer. It offered glimpses of Hela, the movie’s powerful new villain played by Cate Blanchett. And it closed with a killer line as Thor, forced to fight in a gladiatorial arena, sees his Avengers comrade Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and bellows, “He’s a friend from work.” It’s a line he quickly rues saying.

The Ragnarok trailer doesn’t hold the most viewed overall record. The trailer for New Line’s adaptation of Stephen King’s It was viewed 197 million times in the 24 hours after its March 29 release, while Fate of the Furious was eyeballed 139 million times.

Taika Waititi, the New Zealand filmmaker behind the acclaimed indies Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do in the Shadows, is in the director’s seat for Ragnarok.

The movie will be released in the U.S. on Nov. 3.

But if this shit is as good as I'm hearing it is, not to mention that this is supposed to be the THe Winter Soldier of Phase 3 cause of Thanks and the Infinity Stones, it might be wrap b.

DC better hope and pray they have a decent movie on their hands (or that Thor doesn't live up to the hype) because Disney wants ALL the money.

If Coco does, say, Good Dinosaur numbers then DC may stand a chance. If not, WB and DC scheduled themselves into a nightmare

^^^^^All of this.
721151, Two weeks should be enough time.
Posted by SoulHonky, Wed Apr-12-17 01:17 PM
Marvel movies make half their take in the first two weeks. Even a film with strong word of mouth like Guardians took in 25 million in week 3. Civil War made 32 million. That seems like the normal amount for the #2 movie of the week would make against an opening blockbuster.

Coco could be an issue but DC has been all about opening weekend. BvS dropped almost 70% in week 2. Suicide Squad 67%. Man of Steel 65%. I really don't see Justice League changing that but then again, I've always expected it to make BvS money. That flick had the big three; I don't see Aquaman, Cyborg, and Flash boosting the box office THAT much.

And I can't seem to find anything opening wide on December 1st or December 8th so they'll have two more weeks to make money before The Last Jedi wipes everyone out.

I'd still set $350 million as the line between disappointing and satisfactory. The more important movie opening before it is Wonder Woman; if that flick can instill faith in people then Justice League will be sitting pretty, even with the competition.
721152, Maybe. Maybe not.
Posted by bwood, Wed Apr-12-17 01:28 PM
The Thor trailer has gotten a better reaction than the JL trailer.

Not to mention the pettiness I've seen/heard from a lot of people who said they're paying to see Thor for a first, second, third time on JL's opening weekend.
721129, Haven't seen trailer yet, BUT...

i avoid watching trailers in advance of seeing the movies, but i heard its great...doeasnt surprise me...

i think (based on the Director alone) this one has the potential to be the 'sneaky' hit of this next phase...

4. Wanna guess who makes cameos?

Posted by bwood, Wed Apr-12-17 11:04 PM
They said Thanos plays a big part in this. Hela from my understanding is acting on Thanos' behalf.

Kevin Feige said that this is The Winter Soldier of Phase 3 in that it changes and shakes up the universe the most.

inspired as fuck.
epic battles and landscapes.
great callbacks.
and an unbelievably consistent ratio of lols.
u could definitely argue it's got a GoTG vibe but it helps bring Thor's side of the universe to life in a way it hasn't been so far.
i wanna say there's a surprising amount of Aussie references in there, but then again between the cast, the shooting location and Waititi, it was inevitable (naming the ships after classic Holden cars for eg.).
loved the cameos.
Goldblum as Grandmaster is like...PEAK Goldblum. his brief interactions with Thor are classic.
and lookout for Korg stealing the damn show (played by Waititi).

725640, Absolutely the best Thor movie by a country mile. Extremely funny
Posted by spenzalii, Fri Nov-03-17 12:21 AM
Far from perfect, it was great fun and you could tell everyone was having a blast making it. This movie was absolutely made for Immigrant Song. Tessa sashaying down the bifrost? Yes please.

Needless to say, WB and DC better hope and pray they have at least a competent movie. If Thor manages to beat Justice League at the box office, it is not going to be a good look

More later
725641, Incredibly fun and deeply, deeply dorky. Big fan.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Nov-03-17 02:40 AM
Obviously doesn't really have any serious stakes because they went all-in on comedy, but it makes for a colorful and fun watch, and seriously, if you thought Marvel movies were dorky in the past-- you haven't seen some Krull-ass, Flash Gordon-ass shit like this in a while.
725673, I disagree on stakes

725655, Thetre was so crowded that I left

The theater holds approximate 640 people and I'd say that 620 seats were filled.

Just too crowded for me. i was way was off to the extreme side and too close to the screen.

I looked at today's shows and they are straight SOLD OUT.

Have never seen a film sell out that theater - unless it was Christmas day.

725670, yep, he did ...
Posted by Voodoochilde, Sat Nov-04-17 05:48 PM
i've loved everything i've seen of his before this flick, and Waititi's take on Thor is hitting all the right notes for me, If there's any way Marvel can keep him on for future projects they absolutely should (i think he'd be perfect for things like Thor & Spiderman stuff, Dr Strange or Hulk stuff too...could be crazy fun)

Marvel/Disney is 3 for 3 this year.

The comedic elements really works. The action works. Great use of Jeff Goblum. I thought Cate Blanchett was both menacing and incredibly sexy as Hela.

Was it perfect? No. I didn't care much for how they use the Hulk in this. I know he talks and is very interactive in the comics, but I loved how in Avengers 1 and 2 he is just like the live grenade of the group. They don't explain why he isn't this way in Ragnarok...just all of a sudden he talks more and isn't always on a rampage.

Also, it seems like Loki is only in this because he's a crowd favorite. He doesn't have that much to do really. For a character that was the big villain in two movies, here he's more like the sneaky sidekick that can't entirely be trusted.

But these are small gripes for a really entertaining film.
725960, Definitely want to see again. Spinoff possibilities in this....

WOW.

they rocked it w/ this one. great all around. pacing was dope. so much action. the fight scenes had weight to them, which is hard to do w/ cgi.

and hela was just completely badass.

and valkyrie? yes. please. she was so dope in this and owned it from her first appearance on screen.

amazing flick.
