YES, as far as the stories events were concerned Jon was the main character right in the most important/major story line. Presumably the show is going to end with a showdown against the liches and in the past year he was made the head of the main army against them AND found out he got a magical sword. Until Dany gets her shit together he's clearly the main protagonist and the show had built him up as so.

BUT, as far as politics was concerned he sucked...just like Ned. He did a crappy job explaining why he did what he did
