Red Wedding and Ned's execution were far worse but they also accomplished far more in terms of storyline and surprise.
I see what you're saying about Sansa taking Littlefinger's speech to heart but honestly I'm still not understanding why Sansa agreeing to go along with Littlefinger's convoluted plan is helping her in the long run.
