LF is hedging his bets. If LF wanted to increase Stannis's position and chances of winning Winterfell he could have just taken Sansa directly to Stannis. The North Remembers and would have rallied around Sansa and sent bannermen to help Stannis defeat the Boltons. However, if Stannis/Sansa somehow lost to the Boltons, LF wouldn't have the Boltons future support.
