‘Jurassic World’ Ticket Sales Outpacing All 2014 Summer Blockbusters

“Jurassic World” will bare some impressive teeth at the box office this weekend.

The action-thriller is expected to debut to $115 million. That would rank as the third biggest bow of the year behind “Furious 7″ and “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” Ticket sales for the picture are robust, according to Fandango and MovieTickets.com.

Fandango reports that the latest chapter in the “Jurassic Park” franchise is outselling all major 2014 summer blockbusters — a group that includes “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past” — at the same point in those films’ sales cycles. The picture accounts for over 90% of all weekend ticket sales.

MovieTickets.com is also seeing strong interest, with “Jurassic World” topping ticket sales and accounting for 52% of all tickets sold over the past 24 hours.

The Universal Pictures release stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard and was directed by Colin Trevorrow, who previously oversaw the Sundance favorite “Safety Not Guaranteed.”

The film is on track to be the highest-grossing debut in the dinosaur franchise’s history, topping “The Lost World’s” $72 million premiere. It’s also good news for a domestic box office that has struggled of late — ticket sales have lagged behind last year’s numbers for three consecutive weeks. Analysts see “Jurassic World” as a chance to reverse that trend.
