687354, The Affair (Showtime)
Posted by SoulHonky, Mon Oct-20-14 02:14 PM
Didn't really know what to expect from this but really enjoying the concept. The show also gets high marks for casting Rawls as McNulty's father-in-law.

It feels like the kind of show that is going to be worth a rewatch when it is over so you can pick up on little things. For instance, I noticed that in the girl's retelling in epsiode 2, she might have dropped a fact that means the guy's retelling in episode 1 has some truth to it. I'm assuming the truth is somewhere in between the two versions but it's been a intriguing ride so far.
687368, really like it so far. digging the rashomon style.

the differences in their versions are small but not small.

has Rawls ever not played an asshole?

687369, yeah totally agree

and the fiona apple's theme doesn't help
687404, I dig how the truth is somewhere in between

It's up to us to determine what that truth might be
but the 2 sides to every story is dope

Just off top, the average dude ain't making a move without a signal first
while the average woman will clearly let you know if she's interested

sidenote, I keep expecting Rawls to throw out the "you're a gaping asshole. We both know this" line.
688779, great presentation...

690796, I was okay with the finale up until the ending
Posted by mrhood75, Mon Jan-05-15 12:44 PM
Just felt kinda lame to have the show reduced to a whodunnit. It was the part of the show that I liked the least in the episodes preceding the finale, and definitely my least favorite part of the finale as well.

So much of the rest of it works so well, that I'd rather this whole show not be about how their affair lead to them going to prison.

I dunno, maybe it's all a book that Noah's writing. But that would be lame too.
690801, next year they are adding more perspectives
Posted by rjc27, Mon Jan-05-15 01:30 PM
so I'm wondering if they actually stick to the original timeframe and just show noah's wife and alisons husband during these moments...

will be interesting... one big twist next season seems painfully obvious to me (other possible father of alisons child) but we will c if they decide not to go there

@rob_starrk
690806, I actually liked the switch to murder/mystery

The show started dragging a bit for me. The drug dealing initially threw me off and wasn't handled that well but I thought the finale had some new life to it. (Although, I binge watched the last three episodes so they all kind of mesh together in my memory.)

Can't wait for season 2.
690788, Loved this show... got through all 10 ep's in about 4 days

I dug this show quite a bit. Liked how it delved into gender-based perspectives of certain events, and even tweaked the expectations and assumptions regarding those perspectives.

I was riding hard with it until they got to the ZOMG DRUGZ subplot around episode 6. I gave not one fuck about that part of the story at all. I was also irritated early on when the writing tiptoed around who exactly got hit, which resulted in such clunky dialogue as, (paraphrased) "Well, what all do you know about him?" "We just know that they were killed." That wasn't the exact dialogue but I do remember being bothered that the detective didn't just come out and give the name of who it was that was killed, and how. IIRC, this was in either episode 2 or 3. I also was HEATED that the mom burned up the note that Noah wrote for Alison. Not to mention that I found a bit hard to buy that the note would stay stuck to the bike basket. But whatever.

Also, I love Ruth Wilson. You don't like it, tough shit. Josh Jackson was also very good in this, as was Maura Tierney.

Solid show. Eager to see what happens in season 2.
